Fair food and fun

Took my annual trip to Cal State Fair yesterday. Ate a jumbo corn dog, frozen banana, fried mushrooms, bbq sandwich, a fried cheese-french fry-chicken strip sandwich, and for dessert deep fried oreos. Could not do the krispy kream chicken and cheese sandwich.

The rest of the fair rocked. Saw horse races, turkey races, a camel being milked, Japanese drummers, a hypnotist and ended the night with a demolition derby.

My buddy and i were thinking of going to other state fairs, any others good ones?

Hey bro, too bad you were born too late. The NY State fair was perhaps the highlight of our childhood. From what I've read, this oldest state fair is still one of the best. The state fairs in the west aren't much comparatively (though I would suspect Wash and Oregon to be pretty good). The big ones in the midwest are events to see, esp. if you want quantity over quality.

My family and I love the Minnesota State Fair. We go twice each year. Too much to see and do in just one day.

I love fairs as well. The Troy fair is always a blast and the food is delicious!

Always went to the NC State Fair growing up. Fairgrounds are adjacent to Carter-Finley Stadium, so when there was a State game on one of the fair weekends, it was an absolute madhouse.

Never been to the Michigan fair since I moved here, though.

It isn't a fair until you're gnawing the flesh off a giant smoked turkey leg.

I have fond memories of these fairs in So.Cal, but the one in Phoenix stunk... BIG TIME! I was so dissapointed, they had nothing. The highlight were probably the belly dancers and the bungy jump, but that's about it.

Does anyone know of a good one in Texas? Somewhere close to us of course.

Those separate events or together?

Unfortunately separate, it would have been awesome to see a bellydancer bungy jump though.

And the Texas/OU game is always on the fair grounds in the Cotton Bowl. It's quite a spectacle as the team buses make their way though a gauntlet of the opposing fans, who hurl profanities, beer bottles and whatever else is available at the time.

I spent most of the weekend craving a bloomin' onion and a porkchop on a stick ... wish I had made out to a festival.

But I did manage to cruise by a Chick-Fil-A on my vacation, which should tide me over until we get our first local location here next week. Woo-hoo!

Del Mar? My brother and I have lots of memories there. More of an overgrown county fair though but I believe it's SoCal's version of the state fair since no one want to go up north (and vice versa).

The Colorado State Fair has been and still is horrid, from what I've read and listened to. Just one nacho cart after another and not much else. Carrie Underwood was there this past weekend and couldn't manage 4500 in a 8000 seat place.

The culinary talk of the Texas State fair this year is Fried Coke. I still haven't quite wrapped my mind around that one...

Yeah, the Del Mar and Pomona Fair were the ones Antmeister and I attended almost every year.

What about the petting zoo? The SpamMobile? The world's largest horse? The Mexican flea market under the grandstand? The AZ State Fair has some charming crap between the corn dogs.
