I'm a Dad...again! *New and improved--now with pics!*

Our son, Sammy, was born Thursday afternoon. He was actually 5 days LATE.

Things are starting to look better, but he had a pretty rough start. We got to the hospital about 2:30am, after getting big sister Lucy to Grammy and Paps house. With Lucy, my wife's water broke, so they got the epidural going before she was having any serious contractions--not this time. She was in some PAIN as we got into the hospital.

So, they do the epidural, things calm down a little, and by about 10:15, the contractions are about 2 minutes apart.

3 hours later, he's still taking his sweet old time to come into the world. After much discussion, my wife, tired as hell by this point, decides to defer to the doc's decision for a C section-- not her intentions in the beginning, but also wanted everyone to be safe.

No complications during the C section. But, as one team of doctors is working on sewing up my wife, another group has Sam...but no crying. [My wife is a ped nurse, so automatically she picks up on this, even in her drugged up state.] We are trying to look and see what's going on...but no real luck.

Finally, we hear him making some noise and feel sligthly relieved.

However, they tell us he's going immediately to the NICU. He had asperated some fluid/miconium, and they were worried about his lungs as well as any potential damage from the short period of time he wasn't breathing.

As of now (Sunday night) he's still in the NICU, but it is more of a precautionary measure, as he's out of the isolette, breathing normally, and the ultrasound and CT scans of his head have all been clear so far.

I came home after 3 nights, to spend some time with Lucy as well as give my parents a little break. Talked to my wife a little while ago, and she got to feed him the first time earlier tonight.

So, if you can please keep out little guy (OK not SO little, he was 9 lbs3 oz) in your prayers until he makes it through, it would be appreciated.

Wow, what a big baby! It's interesting to hear your story because our oldest had the same issue with meconium and our youngest was a little over 9 lbs as well. We weren't planning on him being delivered via C-Section, but they couldn't hear his heartbeat and had to come out. I also freaked out when I didn't hear him cry for the first few seconds of his life but he ended up being fine.

Anyway (sorry for the rambling), congrats and I'll keep him in my thoughts.

Oh yeah and pix pls k, thx

In my prayers as well...here is a little something to help you laugh....

My 6 year old ran about 1 week late and they performed a c-section on my wife, however, they had to basically dive in to my wife, the little tyke seemed to have found her floating rib and did not want to let go...It was funny watching the doctor all but climb up on the table to pry this little babys fingers off of the rib, he did not want to leave his saftey area...

Again, your family will be in our prayers.

Congratulations!

Anthony was also in NICU when he was born, my water had broken but I never really went into labor - ended up inducing me, 17 hours after my water broke Anthony arrived, but he had an infection from being unprotected for so long. I'll be praying for Sam but it sounds like he is holding his own and is going to be just fine Can't wait to see pictures!!!!
