Font settings in FireFox

I am using a new laptop computer for work, and am trying to get comfortable with the new setup. I am finding a real problem with my font settings on various websites... and am seeking to dip into the vast FOFC knowledge base for help.

I am aware of the Ctrl + and Ctrl - functions, and of the ability to set a default font size in FireFox through the Tools-Options-Content menu. I had fiddled with this pretty extensively.

My problem right now is that a setting that seems to work fine for one location is just *dreadful* for another, and I end up manually adjusting my text for about one in three of the sites that I visit (based on where I was last, I guess).

My new laptop monitor is extended-width, and I suspect this is contributing to the problem -- my resolution setting is 1680x1050, which is a wider screen than I am used to. I am seeing a little bit of distortion in some applications, but that isn't really bothering me much - mainly just the weird variation in text size.

Right now, at FOFC, I have my text size set to a setting that is comfortable -- my default is 12 point font, but I don't know what I have set at the moment, as I got here by manually shrinking the font after I arrived. However, if I next visit a Yahoo! site, the text is microsocopically small and nearly unreadable. I need to up-size my text twice there to get it back to being comfortable. And so forth with several of my regular visiting places...

Is there any way to create a text-size setting that applies just to a certain site... that seems to be what I want here, but I don't see how to do it. It's not the end of the world if I juat have to get used to odd text sizes, or else manually switch when I visit a new site... but I'd much prefer a shortcut if there is one. I never experienced any similar problems on my previous machine or the one I use at home-- both always seemed to find a comfortable text size without any problems at all.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey Quiksand,

I use a laptop, have resolution set to the same, and use Firefox almost exclusively.

What I have found best for me is to go into my display properties and change the DPI settings to 125%. You might want to change the DPI settings in Firefox under Tools>Options>Fonts>Advanced, but I honestly haven't seen do anything.

What sites are you haveing problems with? it may be that they only do IE. If this is so you can go and download an IE tab extension that creates a tab that is IE.

I do hope any of this rarmbling helped.

I just picture this guy spending three-and-a-half years lurking, muttering to himself "Just have patience, Quiksand will need my help some day... yes, some day..."

(Welcome, by the way.)

Ctrl-Scroll Wheel adjusts the font size (for me at least).
