Internet Radio Station Idea - *Update*
I am just trying to get some feedback about an internet radio station I am thinking (highly considering) about starting up with shoutcast/winamp.
and I know that this place has nothing to do with music, but I hang out here alot, so I figured I'd add you guys to the research I am doing. Right now, there will be two genres of music that I will be mixing, since it is my two favorite styles of music. Ska/Reggae and video game soundtracks. Ska/Reggae acts from Moon Ska Records and Megalith Records - for the most part. Video game composers like Nobou Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda , Hitoshi Sakimoto and some of the Majestic Mixes and Ocremixes. I know its a unique mix but I think it could work and also its a mix that I can get around the whole royalty issue. I am just trying to find out a basis of the traffic I might see. Poll coming up. Discussion as well. Feel free to ask anything. Last edited by Ramzavail : 11-25-2007 at 09:37 PM. |

I'm currently running an internet radio station and it's pretty rewarding, so...good luck with this.

It's working pretty well. It's an independent radio station serving the University of Wyoming, which doesn't have a student radio station (NPR took it over in the 70s and has had it ever since..) and so, I got some people together and they do podcasts and shows. It's only been on the air for a month now, so we're still working out some of the scheduling and such. But it's inexpensive enough that I pay for it myself (e.g. it's not funded by the university and isn't affiliated with them at all)
We play an eclectic variety of...well, anything and everything. But with a bend towards stuff that's not mainstream, though there are exceptions. Our web site is at http://www.uwyo.fm |

Excellent
I'd also like to point out that the video game soundtrack genres vary from the actual music in the games, to piano/classical versions of the songs in the games and techno/trance remixes of songs in the games. |

Are you playing remixes from ocremix.org? Are you planning on getting some from other sites, too? I have some stuff at www.vgmix.com (currently the music database is down due to hacking) so I hope you give me some play time.

I would play remixes from ocremix, yes. I'd play any type of remix of a video game song.

My vgmix name is Gorgonian so if you have any of my music from vgmix.com put it in your rotation (or I can direct you to my soundclick page while vgmix is down (expected to be until January I think). http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...?bandID=301818 The popular ones are Fantasy Prelude, Rygar Overture, and Vision of Celes. Oh Farewell, Terra is ok, too. Last edited by MJ4H : 09-25-2006 at 10:16 PM. |

Ok - small update here - I have the website up and working. hxxp://www.rfunityradio.com
The shoutcast server is ready. But the whole royalty bit scares the hell out of me. I have no idea where to even begin - anybody have any experience or knowledge on this? I am reading some of this legal mumbo-jumbo and it's all really confusing. Plus, I'd imagine - since I won't be making a dime off of this, alot of this doesn't apply but I'd imagine some of it does too. Double Plus, what also boils me over is that I'm not playing any sort of mainstream, popular radio station music here. I just think they are just blanketing royalties here no matter what genre of music you are playing. Loudcity is an option but for $35 a month is a bit steep. And thats the minimum cost. I'm baffled.
