Cm4 baby! Who isn't thrilled?

CM 4 Linkage

I love the screenshot of game actually going on with little dots as your players, where you see your tactics actually being played out.

Who isn't thrilled about this?

It's too bad CM4 had to be about soccer. A superbly designed game using a bad sport. That just don't mix.

I'm trying very hard to avoid the civ3/tcy/sim city3000 situation of allowing myself to get super hyped for a sequel only to be incredibly disapointed by a product inferior to its predecessors... but wow I can't wait for CM4!!

If CM4 is the Atari 2600, does that make fof4/ootp4 a checker board?

FOF is more like the Commodore64 when it comes to the scoreboard "graphical representation"

Isnt every game you play just a bunch of organized dots of different colors?

I am pro-dot.

Sure, but those dots combine to form something similar to the object it is depicting.

I tried CM and it was not for me, however I honestly think a graphical representation of the action is a very, very good thing.

This just struck me as very funny. It might work great, but it does look ridiculous.

I was just kidding Marmel, every game is not for everybody.

Sometimes when playing CM, a goal comes out of the blue. I think if it works properly, its a great step forward if its fluid which from watching the videos it looks that way. It should add to the tactical part of it so you can see whats going on.

Its also an option apparently so die-hards can still play with the play-by-play. One thing I wish would happen in OOTP and FOF is a variety of descriptive play-by-play.

I am hoping to throughly enjoy the updated International management aspect of this game. Marc has commented that it will be much more in depth, and I am hoping so.

The quality of the sport is subjective. I would much much much much rather watch a soccer game than a baseball game and think it is a much more enjoyable sport. But at the same time, I have enjoyed playing games such as OOTP to a great degree.

Soccer is the most popular sport over the whole planet. Period. No need to argue !

And being WORLD champions at soccer really means world champion

Not like your so-called local world championships

I'm definitely excited by the new release. Can't wait to see some of the UI changes, small additions (ie, improved notes) and the match representation. Like Horned, I'd like to be able to understand better some of the goals that ended up being one-liners.

As for the sport of soccer/futbol itself, I've gone from completely hating it to now being able to suffer extremely small doses (a few minutes at a time) every now and again. At least from a spectator sport perspective. Still can't see myself enjoying the game from a participant perspective yet.

Alf, while I agree with you in principle...do you really think any team that isn't in the NFL could possibly come close to beating even the worst team in the NFL consistently enough to threaten to be the best team in the world? Sure the NFL isn't international, but I don't think you can argue that there are better teams out there.

Again with the soccer bashing. If the Americans had invented it, I bet its popularity would be a lot higher. And don't give me the boring angle, we did invent baseball after all.

Anyway, I love going to soccer matches, two 45 minute halves, no sitting around during endless TV time outs. Cool Chants (2nd half of a 5-0 Crystal Palace thumping of Brighton the Palace fans started singing "You're Sh** and you know you are." )

I'm excited about CM. It's the definitive sim. Very interested to see how the new one looks.

of course, my remarks were meant in order to draw at least one response like yours

I agree with the NFL as you're the only country to play it at such a professional level. We also have a world championship of american football (to be held in Germany this summer), and France, Germany, Japan and a 4th country will be playing there. However, to give you an idea on how we suck at American Football, we only have 5-6 French players in the NFL Europe, so that's a long way to even get o NFL level...

However, for Basketball, I do not think that your NBA champion should be called World champion. At Sydney olympics, you hardly beat Lithuania in the seims and worse than that, at the latest World Championship, your National team (full of NBA players) didn't even make it to the final four...

I've played, and I could care less.

It is perhaps the most well made sports sim out there, but in the end, its still about soccer. Watching play by plays of soccer games is as exciting as, well, watching soccer. I would also be bored by an extremely well made shopping sim.

It is rather funny that several folks (myself included) are looking forward to a game w/ 1980's style top down graphics.

It sort of reminds me of that old arcade football game with the X's and O's for players, and you controlled your player with the track ball. That was a classic game.

You said it better than I could.

Something to ponder: Pro Football is the most popular sport in the US but the only text-based game on the market can only sell 2000+ copies. CM4 will sell at least 100,000 copies ... in the first weekend alone.

While I understand the logic behind this, I dont agree. In a league where most of the worlds best players come to compete, I do not see anything wrong with declaring yourself as the World Champs.

Now as for CM4, I like dots.
