I see dead people...I mean Cardinals...
So, I've thought it was a little weird, seeing first a Mabry, then a Lankford, then a Whitten. Last week I saw a Larussa. I'd expect to see names like Coleman, Smith, McGee, Sanders, and Duncan. Maybe I just had Cardinals on the brain when I got here.
Well, the other day I walk into an Oquendo. First name Jose. I need to go home.

I thought this was going to be a post about their playoff chances.

Many years ago, I had a dream about Jose Oquendo while he was still playing. In my dream, I was watching a Cardinals game on TV, and I was really excited about Oquendo's at-bat. The reason is that he was my father. Let me repeat that. Jose Oquendo was my father.
I never forgot this dream (obviously), and I think I had mentioned it to my wife a few years ago for some reason. The last time the Cardinals came to Pittsburgh this year, we went to one of the games, and I pointed at third base while the Cardinals were batting. For those who don't know, Jose Oquendo is now the third base coach for St. Louis. I was sitting in PNC Park, poking my wife in the shoulder, and yelling, "Look! That's the guy I thought was my father!" I'm sure there are a few people in Pittsburgh who wonder about the crazy Cardinals fan who sat near them that night. ![]()
