I'm not sure I can vote yet. It dpeends on a lot of other factors. If they keep putting out games that are the quality that NBA Live seems to be, then I think it will catch up to them. However, for all of the complaints that Madden has from this and other hardcore communities, it's still a damned good game overall - particularly for the casual football fan.
So... It's hard to say... I think they need to make several games, across sports, of the quality of NBA Live before it catches up to them. If NBA Live continues being the one true completely terrible game, I think they get away with it.

gamers have become way to scientific nowdays
In my day basketball games featured a square ball and no nets on the hoops. That's the way it was and we liked it!

Only indirectly. The only way I see them falling off the mountaintop is if the entire sports genre for consoles goes belly up.

We need an option for:
"No. Most of their customers are too stupid and will keep buying their stuff."

their marketing makes their games appears to be of a much higher quality than they are. the commercials for NBA Live '07 almost made me want a 360.
almost. but i do realize that (with regards to this community at least) no sports console game will ever really suffice. we are a text sim sports community, a genre of games whose only saving grace is statistical accuracy (and even sometimes text sim games can't even get that right). sports console games are just for joystick jockeys, people who want to test their reflexes and manual dexterity against the AI. a lot of times i would play a game on my PS2 and enjoy, Madden for example, then i would read the reviews here (and the reviews would always knock the AI or some other thing like a RB not getting enough carries or the AI front office making silly roster moves) and then i would look at my game in a negative light and trade it in soon thereafter. i just want to go back to simply enjoying a sports game like i used to. a lot of my knowledge of NBA/NHL rosters (who was on what team) came from playing EA's NBA and NHL games all the time. from the mid-to-late 90's i have a pretty good understanding of who played on what team and in most case can tell you the order of the teams they played for. i used to just like playing NBA and NHL and NFL games on the console, and you people spoil it for me with your silly desire for graphical and statistical perfection. |
