Help with network

Ok so I know these are becoming a theme but one more won't kill you.

So I just upgraded from a normal router to a wireless router. I have 2 computers, A and B, at home that are hard connected to the router plus one laptop connected wirelessly.

Computer B has an extra hard drive (the location of which when i right click on it says \\hp952\f in the comments field, maybe this isn't its actual location???) and I was able to connect to it from Computer A through my network places. I installed the new router and the internet works fine on all three computers, however now I get an error when I try to connect to computer B from computer A. It tells me that the folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another.

What is going on? I was able to connect before, I checked the settings on computer B and the box to share the drive is checked, the only thing I can think of is the name of the computer has changed or I really don't know.

Can anyone help me?

Also secondary question, is it possible to have access to the extra hard drive on computer B from the laptop? If so how?

Secondary rant: So I paid 10 bucks to have the router shipped to my house instead of me having to drive across town and spend an hour to pick it up. So this morning I get an email saying that I wasn't home and I have to go to the post outlet to pick up my parcel. I checked the online tracking and during the window between the package going out for delivery and being delivered back at the postal center was 2 hours and I can guarantee that I was within 15 feet of the door, reading a paper for those 2 hours. I didn't pay for you to ship the package to my door so I could go out and pick it up, I might as well just picked it up from the store.

Can you still see computer B in network places?

Indstead of connecting through \\hp952\f can you replace hp952 with the IP address of the computer instead so it is something like \\192.168.x.x\f?

Did you run the home networking wizard of whatever it's called? That could have possibly turned on the XP firewall which could block traffic.

One you get A talking to B again, you can connect your wireless computer to computer B in the same way.

- No when I clicked on it the first time it took it out of the my network places

I went to computer B and ran ipconfig to find the ip, i tried using \\the ip address (192.168.x.x)\f with the same error

I checked the firewall settings on computer B and the are still off, I'm not sure how to check them on computer A.

Can you ping computer B from computer A?

What do you see if you type in net view \\hp952 or net view \\ipaddress at the dos prompt?

If you can see the f share as being listed, type in net use z: \\hp952\f

This should give you a z: drive which will be the second drive on computer B.

typing in at the c:\ of computer A, c:\net view \\192.168.1.1 i get a
System error 53 has occured.

The network path was not found.

same if i try \\hp952

Are you sure the ip of computer B is 192.168.1.1? Usually the router takes that IP. What kind of router is it?

Are we sure that the computer name is "hp952"? Also, if "f" is referring to a drive letter you will not be able to access it directly as it is an administrative share. It can only be accessed by an administrator using "f$".

This still doesn't explain why the box doesn't show up in My Network Places.

That's my bad, the router ip is 192.168.1.1 the other computer ip is 192.168.1.101, when I try and ping it I get a timed out message.

The router is a lynksys wrt54gs

That's what it says when I right click on the drive, goto the properties and it says \\hp952\f under the comments, I also remember it being what the network location was called with the old router. Is there any way to double check the name?

And f is the drive letter for the extra hard drive on computer B.

Are you sure all firewalls are turned off (Windows, ZoneAlarm, Norton, etc.)?

Ahhh, so it times out pinging A from B? Does it time out pinging from B to A?

No it doesn't tme out going from B to A.

Sure sounds like some security program on B is blocking things.

Ha ha, I found it. Weegeebored, you reminded me of something my dad said a couple of weeks ago, he said he installed some client so he could access some files at work, well I checked and when I installed the network access it reconfigured the firewall in that program and that was screwing things up. I had checked norton and the windows firewall but I hadn't checked this other program, so i added computer A to the exception list and voila, it worked.
