Tragedy at University of Texas!

Bevo XIII died.

AUSTIN, Texas -- Bevo XIII, the winningest and longest-serving mascot in University of Texas history, died Monday, Oct. 9 at the age of 22. He died less than 48 hours after the Longhorns defeated the Oklahoma Sooners, 28-10, in the 2006 edition of the Red River Rivalry.

Originally named Sunrise Express, Bevo XIII was born in February 1984 and became the UT mascot in 1988, serving for 16 years. A national grand champion steer before he was four years old, he was loaned to The University by John and Betty Baker, owners of Sunrise Ranch in Liberty Hill, Texas.

His career as Bevo carried him to both coasts and to both the 2000 and 2004 inaugurations of President George W. Bush.

Bevo XIII's career inspired the Silver Spurs to create the Bevo Endowment, which supports the Neighborhood Longhorns program, endows scholarships to deserving University of Texas students, and provides for the future care of all Bevos. The Bevo Endowment has raised nearly $2 million toward these charitable causes.

Bevo XIII will be memorialized in the new Silver Spurs Bevo Center which will be dedicated on Friday, Nov. 3. The center, located on the east side of Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, will contain pictures and stories of each Bevo to serve The University of Texas.

Yeah, I thought maybe they caught one of the players coloring outside the lines or something. That'd have sucked.

Wow. Way to take a post that was a complete joke and make it into something horrific. Impressive. You should feel pride over that one. Congrats.

Exactly how is an old animal dying of natural causes considered a tragedy? I bet they could replace him with another steer and no one would ever know the difference.

Yeah, I really don't think "tragedy" applies here, unless the brand of Texas football in that game was so horrific that, despite the win, it caused Bevo's death.

I mean, there's Texas football and then there's wanton cruelty to animals!

You, not HM, are the singular reason I hope Texas loses in any sport now. Never before have I disliked an individual so much that it's carried over to their team, but the thought of you celebrating any Texas win makes me sick to my stomach. Thank God I can also think of classy people like Huck, Cartman and Senator instead of you.

The comment above? Would have been funnier if you hadn't went to the other place first. But that was a nice effort at a pathetic recovery.

And I like how you misread just about every single situation, every single time. Go buy yourself some class. It's funny how the guy you met in your screen name has more class in his fingernails than you have at all. It's to bad when you two crossed paths some of it didn't rub off on you.
