Doesn't Hawaii pretty much run a passing run-and-shoot offense?

Thanks for the stat update. I will definately take a close look at him when I send my weekly heisman votes to CSTV.com.

Although this year Hawaii's offense is much more balanced, our RB is averaging 8 ypc and has gone over 100 yards rushing in a game twice.

Yes, the numbers Brennan are putting up are incredible (the completion % is especially impressive)--but after Andre Ware, I don't think the Heisman voters are likely to vote for another Run and Shoot quarterback (especially from a mid-major school).

Not being a hater here, I am a June Jones fan and read the Scout and the Sports Hawaii boards regularly...

The bowl games don't count for the Heisman, since it's awarded before bowl season. Problem with Hawaii is they aren't playing great competition.

Who's Hawaii's top receiver? I remember seeing that he is an amazing player for a sophmoore.

We need Hawaii vs Texas this year.

Just because of the Colt factor.

I think Andre Ware won a Heisman is a better argument than Jason White.

None is needed. It's common sense that he will win it, barring some bad performances down the road.

Will Smith be a high pick? He's on the short side.

I don't think he will be top 10, but I still think he will win the Heisman. I think if he continues to have a great season, he will go somewhere in the middle of the 1st round. As you mentioned, his height isn't ideal and he isn't as fast as some of the recent scrambling QB's to go highly.

Ware never won a SWC championship for Houston, White played for two national championships. White went 27-4 as a starter and that doesn't include the '01 game where he came in and led OU on the only offensive TD drive of the game. White won a Heisman and came in third the following season.

True, White didn't ever make the NFL...but I don't think that this argument has anything to do with who is going to be a better QB in the pros as Colt Brennan hasn't made it there yet.

actually this is wrong. He put up GOOD numbers but he choked in every big game of his career, ever single one! He threw way way way too many interceptions in 3 of 4 seasons. Timmy Chang is nothing compared to Colt.

dola , in espn's most recent heisman expert poll or whatever they call it Colt got 1 point, a vote for 5th, which is the same amount of points Chris Leak got for whatever its worth.

Wow. That's one heck of a run 'n shoot, if the RB is getting less than 13 carries a game.

I doubt he will get it. He's seen as too much of a product of the system (Timmy Chang put up big numbers not too many years ago) and also the fact that Hawaii isn't playing many high quality opponents.

yea, he probably won't get it. but I'm definetly willing to bet the house that his numbers at the end of this season will surpass changs best season by so much that it won't even be funny. Chang's best season was his senior year, but I will wait till the end of the season to make a comparison. It won't be close.

Sorry, but I had to do it. I just looked at Chang's stats from his senior year. Eaglesfan27 you should really look at his stats from any year, and even compare Brennan last year (as a sophmore). It's not even really close. chang had more TD's but his rating is soooo much lower. heh

Chang was a system QB, I admit it. But Brennan is not.

Ok, his stats are better than Chang's. However, he still has the issue that the Run and Shoot is considered to seriously inflate stats. Also, he is playing inferior competition. I think he has to have all huge games the rest of the way and get a few guys to stumble to even get an invite. He also can't lose any more games. Three loss teams don't usually get their guys invited to the Heisman presentation.

Guys that will almost certainly get invites:

1. Troy Smith - Clearly the favorite to win it and he is putting up huge numbers against superior competition. Top 5 in efficiency. 17 passing TD's. His team is #1 and undefeated.

2. Ray Rice - After tonight's performance he is going to be in the top #3 in the nation in rushing and will probably finish in the top 3 especially since Adrian is out injured. Also among the top 5 in TD's and his team is undefeated.

From here, I think it becomes less certain but all of these guys are more likely than Brennan to get an invite:

3. Erik Ainge - QB of a 1 loss top 10 team. 7th in the nation in efficiency. 11th in passing yardage. Playing much more talented teams.

4. Michael Hart - Top 10 in the nation in rushing on a top 3 team that is undefeated.

5. Steve Slaton - Top 5 in the nation in rushing on a top 5 team.

Others that merit consideration before Brennan off the top of my head:

Colt McCoy (being a Freshman will probably penalize him some), P.J. Hill, Chris Leak (if Florida doesn't lose any more games and Leak continues to throw a few TD's per game.)

I'm not saying Brennan's season isn't statistically spectacular, it is just too bad we aren't seeing if he can do this against some tougher competition, and I think Heisman voters will penalize him for it and he won't get an invite.

Agree with your list outside of a couple guys at the end Eagles. Colt won't get a Heisman invite. Not only is he a frosh, but Texas lost the biggest game of their year and he only threw for 108 yards in the OU game. His numbers are impressive, but he lacks the hype or the signiture game to make it happen. The Auburn game will come back to kill Chris Leak. I'm not sure Florida winning out would even get him the invite.

You also left out one name that will almost certainly get an invite, even with how horrible he's looked at times this year. Brady Quinn will end up with 4000+ yards passing and 40 TD's at Notre Dame. I just don't see a way he doesn't get an invite. Not sure he deserves it, but it's Notre Dame, right?

I agree that Colt McCoy is unlikely to get it. Leak, I think might get it if others stumble just because there aren't that many impressive guys ahead of him. Then again, you are probably right and Brady Quinn will get an invite just because of the ND name, the national exposure, etc. I just don't think his statistics have been that impressive in their big games.

Colt is now the top rated passer in the country, on pace to possibly break the passer rating record. Product of the system my fucking ass.

edit: he also has the best completion % in the country. Last I heard you have to be accurate to have a high completion %, and hes not just dumping off to the backs. This guy seriously deserves some / more respect.

I'm curious. Do you really believe he's a better QB than, say, Chad Henne, or Chris Leak, or even somebody like Will Proctor?

oh and 1 more thing... Hawaii WILL be in the top 20 when this season is over. they are getting votes in the 3 polls now and they are 5-2, the offense is unstoppable and I don't think they play a good Defense the rest of the way (which will hurt brennan, causing him to not get an invite im sure) but when they destroy Oregon St. and Purdue hopefully people give him, and Hawaii a little bit more respect. And maybe even a better bowl game then the gay ass Hawaii bowl.

Sad that the only game that will be televised nationally will be the bowl game.

DOLA , Colt only played a little less then 3 quarters, but finished 31/38 for 333 and 5 tds with no picks... these 5 td no pick games are becoming a common occurance.. COLT FOR HEISMAN!

Was he efficient, though? When you're in a pass heavy system, it's even harder to put up solid Y/A, etc rates.

The main knock against Colt is competition, not system IMO.
