Fantasy NBA league forming
After having a pretty good time with the fantasy baseball league this season, I am going to run a fantasy NBA league as well. I will post the details below for the Yahoo! league that I have established -- we will allow up to 12 teams to play.
This will be a real money league, each team entry will cost $50. All league entry fees (net of any transaction charges) will be paid back to the winners. If you have questions, you can ask them by PM or post in this thread. I set up Saturday afternoon right before the regular season starts as the time for the live draft to try to be as accommodating for work schedules and time zones as possible. Also, you may be interested to know that I personally am a complete sucker, and my money is almost completely dead here. I haven't watched an NBA game in probably five years, and other than occasionally paying attention to college players on draft day, pretty much all I know about the NBA is gathered from wqatching PTI, which is to say not very much at all. I have played fantasy basketball leagues before, and am willing to apply basic strategy, but it won't be based on any sort of real knowledge. Take that for what it's worth. I have set the scoring to "points only" but I really don't have a strong feel for what works best. Once we have a critical mass, I will poll the confirmed owners and we may switch to head-to-head. If that is a make-or-break issue for your participation, please let me know. I don't have enough experience with this sort of thing to really make a well-informed judgment. Bump. It looks like we have four or five owners so far... my best guess is that either 8 or 10 is a better level to make things interesting.
Any more takers? |

I might be interested (and have a friend that might like to join as well). How would payment of league fee be handled? Thanks.

I can accept payment via PayPal, or I'm sure we could work out another arrangement -- send me a check or m/o, or somesuch. I paid my basbeall winners by a combination of personal checks and PayPal, based on their preferences.

Bah. Family plans have made me unable to be there for the draft.
I don't imagine there's any way to adjust it to, say, Friday evening without losing people who have already signed up? Assuming there's no easy way out, I will just prepare a list for an autodraft setup, and make do with that. Not like I really know what I'm doing in a draft here anyway. *sigh* |

I don't know about others, but I can do the draft just about anytime next weekend including Friday night.

I think we have 7 members signed up... with SUbby dropping out, down to 6.
What say we? If wwe just go with the total points scoring, it's not a problem to have an uneven number of teams, so that's not a hurdle. I'm guessing that with rosters that go this deep (including the bench positions) that we can get by with a fairly small number of teams, though it won't be quite as challenging to do so. Any thoughts? Abandon ship? Play for free like cowards? Keep banging the recruiting drum? I'm open... |

When I was trying to recruit owners for my baseball league I used a few messageboards that were dedicated to roto/fantasy players. I was actually able to replace 5 owners using that system in short fashion. I don't have the sites here at work, but could look them up when I get home (and post about the openings) if you'd like?
On the other hand, if we want to just limit involvement to FOFC I'm ok with running with a reduced number. |

I'll know later today if I'm free Saturday or not, but if I am free, I'll get in this, sounds like fun.

I'd prefer not to go to the random roto/fantasy boards for a variety of reasons. Hopefully, we get one or two more people at least from here, but I'd prefer to go with a smaller number of teams than introducing a few random elements from a roto board.
For now, my vote is to keep banging the recruiting drum on here.. |

Looks like we have six teams right now... if we don't get any more participants, my inclination will be to lengthen the rosters a bit and we'll go forward from there.
Maybe add one more G, one more F, and one flex position? And a couple more bench spots? |

Bummer that I missed the draft. I'm not disappointed how my team came out. Whether they are competitive or not is another question.

Well, after that THRILLING season, here's how things worked out:
Code:
Thanks to those who played... and most especially to those who paid. Congratulations to kurtism on his mighty victory! It was really a two-horse race most of the season, and then 3rd/4th turned into a battle late. |
