One thing I'm wondering is where the Avoid Interceptions rating went. Is that tied into Accuracy now?

anyone try moving a player to a new position? I love how you just get a "above average or below average" for different physical things and no clue about the ratings

(at least i think i love)

it appears "right click to view position experience chart" will be very useful in moving people to non-primary positions!

You do get a clue about the ratings when you click OK to change them to position.

I traded for Kevin Barry and experimented with that. I do love the above/below/significantly option though

*shrug*

why is it that all the offensive plays are diagrammed for idiots, but the defensive ones aren't?

now I'm fairly saavy when it comes to defensive football but there are still times when i'd like to see a lil diagram

Am I the only one who thinks the rounded buttons look absolutely ugly. Of course I have it at 1280x1024, so let me shrink the window. I think the color schemes are even fuglier.

I think I found another bug. In the PbP of a Dallas game it said:

Quote:
Bledsoe avoids the pass rush

Then the game redeems itself:

Quote:
Bledsoe throws a deep pass to Owens.
The pass is intercepted in the endzone.

I love the expanded deep charts, way mroe options specially for the defensive formations.

Also love the button on every player card to set if he plays in Special Teams or not. No more having your best players getting injured on stupid plays!!

Double dola, it has real players... i wonder if we can transfer this database to the full game if it ends not having them, i would think so.

Cool stuff from the documentation...
  • For the quarterback, you choose a value from 1 (least) to 9 (most) indicating how likely you are to replace him for poor play.
  • For rookies, test scores are also available on this screen. Players take part in a series of tests prior to the draft. They are asked to run a 40-yard dash. They are asked to repeatedly lift a weight (which varies by position) to test their strength. They are put through an agility drill, they are given an intelligence test, they are tested in the broad jump and some players are given a position-specific drill.
  • Use the No Special Teams button to designate that a player should not be used to fill out special teams - punt returns and punt coverage, kick returns and kick coverage. This is not a guarantee that the player won't be used. For instance, if you have only four linebackers on your active roster, it will be very difficult to keep a linebacker off of special teams. But it will help a lot.
  • Use the Interview button to interview players you may be interested in drafting during the amateur draft. This button is available only during the early free agency period. You have 60 interviews you can use during the early stages of free agency. Interviewing a player will give you a better idea of the player's skills. You will also learn about potential affinities and conflicts, details about the player's personality and whether your scout feels the player is better or worse than his overall rating.
  • Offensive skill players are also rated for their ability to avoid fumbling, and quarterbacks are rated for their abililty to avoid interceptions. But these are essentially hidden ratings in that your scout can not help you with them, and you'll need to analyze the statistics these players produce to make a guess as to how well your players avoid turning the ball over.

the reason i say that is because the line on the stats popup that brings you to that is just called "Football Outsiders"

so maybe Jim is planning to add more?

For those who like the SoleVision (which I really likey) there is an option in the Edit Global Options to hide the results when you sim so you watch the games in Solevision and avoid spoilers.

So far, whenever I think of a potential problem, there's a solution already built into the game.

Yep and the website is linked in the game. I'm hoping this is a sign of more FO stats to come in the future.

1-Deep, Bump and Run - This is the traditional "46" defense, and like the 1-Deep, Loose Man, gets eight men in the box, possibly nine when playing the run aggressively. It is a man-to-man coverage with only the free safety in a deep zone. Pass defenders play much closer to the receivers, trying to keep them from breaking free. This is also vulnerable to a passing attack, particularly to deep passes.

2-Deep, Loose Man - This is one of the most basic coverages. Both safeties drop into deep zones, and the other defenders play a man-to-man defense. It has no major strengths or weaknesses.

2-Deep, Bump and Run - This is the "Cover-2" defense that so many teams use today. Both safeties drop into deep zones, and the other pass defenders play much closer to the receivers, often bumping them within the legal five-yard limit. This defense has no major weaknesses, and is a little stronger against a short passing attack.

Strong-Side Man Cover - This is a combination zone/man-to-man defense with the safeties in two deep zones. On the strong side of the field, defenders are in a man-to-man coverage scheme. On the weak side, the cornerback plays in a short zone along with linebackers, if necessary. This coverage gives you a little variety and is slightly worse against teams with a good receiving tight end.

Weak-Side Man Cover - This is a combination zone/man-to-man defense with the safeties in two deep zones. On the weak side of the field, defenders are in a man-to-man coverage scheme. On the strong side, the cornerback plays in a short zone along with linebackers, if necessary. This coverage gives you a little variety and is slightly better against teams with a good receiving tight end.

3-Deep Zone - This coverage places both safeties and a cornerback (often the nickel) in deep zones. It gives you a more effective pass defense, but leaves you vulnerable to the run.

4-Deep Zone - This coverage places both safeties and two extra defensive backs in deep zones. This is a prevent defense and should never be used when expecting a run. Even short passes are more likely completed against this defense, but it is very effective against deep passes.

Double Coverage:

You may assign double coverage based on the cornerbacks. One cornerback is always assigned to the flanker, and one to the tight end. Your choice affects which side each cornerback covers. If you choose to orient the cornerbacks left and right, then they stay on the left or right side regardless of which sides the flanker and split ends choose. If you choose to orient the cornerbacks based on their abilities, then your top cornerback will always cover the opposing team's best wide receiver.

In double-coverage, a safety (usually the free safety first) automatically joins one of the cornerbacks. This doesn't mean there won't be double coverage elsewhere, just that it's automatic in this case. This is also what the game reports in the play-by-play. When the cornerbacks stay on one side or the other, your choices are to double-cover either the split end or the flanker. When they cover based on ability, your choices are to double-cover either the top or the second-best receiver.

Double-coverage percentages indicate what percentage of all plays a safety is in automatic double coverage.

Select the Recommend button to have your coach set the values on the screen.

BUG: Help File, Team Roster Screen, "This gives you an effective minimum of 38 active players and a maximum of 46. Any less than 44, with the positions distributed as above..."

If all the other numbers are correct, then the 44 should be a second reference to 38. "This gives you an effective minimum of 38 active players and a maximum of 46. Any less than 38, with the positions distributed as above..."

Nice upgrades to the transaction log. Stage is listed, and the original position is listed in position switches.
