FOF2007 Depth Charts

Are a clickfest. Quick question, which screen has more info? Which one allows you to roll your scroll button to cycle through all the eligible players' scout screens?

or

It is unnecessarily frustrating and tedious having to right click on every player we want to view in the depth chart. I know its been mentioned elsewhere, but it really deserves to be the first non-programmatic issue addressed. Plenty of screen real estate to work with on those depth charts too.

Amen brotha. I really don't know how the beta testers weren't crying bloody murder. It took me 15 seconds before I wanted to smash my monitor.

Gotta say I didn't really notice the huge difference between the two versions until this thread. It doesn't bother me tremendously, but I don't understand why there can't be a "scroll" button (left and right) on the depth charts so you could basically stay in one window while you make your changes. Instead of change, exit, click, change, exit, click, etc...especially cause many of the times I'm an idiot and click a depth chart that I've already set, or I skip over one.

I still like the simplicity of FOF 2001 by EA Sports. I thought that version was awesome!

First off, I agree with PT. There was really nothing wrong with the old way, it was a great presentation. Countless times I've clicked on a position then rolled through the choices using the arrow keys. I never much think to right-click on things, I guess I just don't do it much.

As for Logan's comment, I think what the various depth charts could have used are tabs, or a similar behavior. The first time I went into a depth chart, my inclination was to click on the buttons on the background screen to toggle between different depth charts. It didn't do that of course, as you have to close the one that is open first. I'm guessing maybe it needs to be that way to confirm and store any changes?

Agreed. The old depth chart screen was better looking AND much more functional.

Jim should let us set depth charts on the actual roster screen. I don't understand why you can't just have "Promote" and "Demote" buttons on the roster screen that simply promote a guy up a string or demote them down one. You'd have to use context menus to play players out of position, but it'd be so much easier.

I completely agree with PT. This is the one feature of FOF2007 that is driving me up the wall.

If there is any way to revert here...don't make corey beg!

I don't mean to pile on, but this was at best a baffling decision. I hope to god the old versions are back in the first patch.

I like the old chart too, but can live with the new one.

One thing about the new one when you right click and bring up the scouting report box you also get some current season stats at the bottom. If we were able to return to the old screen in an update I would hope this little feature would stay in and be seen in the big scout window.

Another benefit of the old way is the playing time being on this screen. Let's you see a players endurance when setting his PT.

I don't mind the new way, except at the bottom of the right-clicked screen where it says the height/weight/experience, how about adding the current/potential ratings right next to it. There's plenty of space for it

I don't have a problem with either one, seeing as though I pretty much determine who is going to do what while evaluating my team on the main roster screen and then implementing my decisions on the depth chart screens. So, I don't have much need for looking at ratings on those screens.

Of course, I don't micromanage, either, so I'm not overriding the recommendations for every subset of playing time that is on these screens.

Strange choice of hopes given, well, never mind. It's election season and I can't talk about that.

This was my reasoning: the main link to these screens is now on the roster screen. The roster screen contains some basic information that helps remind you of who is who once your roster is familiar to you. It is now a bigger screen, with enough room to display the entire offense or the entire defense. That is a huge bonus for me.

When the depth chart screens are displayed, being modal, they cover a lot of the screen. I wanted to keep as much of the roster screen uncovered as possible, so, when I was dealing with the largest of the depth chart screens, I could still make my decisions based on information on the roster screen.

I think once you're more familiar with your team, you'll be doing less right-clicking. I base this on my own experiences running an MP team. I always wish I could see the roster list, but I find myself looking less at the scouted ratings as I go on, because I have a good idea already and just need a reminder from time to time.

First time through, setting depth charts, yes, more annoying. Tweaking your roster later on? Less annoying. Best of both worlds (a screen that changes sizes based on your preferences)? Maybe later on. Not for this update.

Hmm, talk about a different user experience. Typically, I will make adjustments to my roster first from my roster list (generally getting the best/least injured 46 active) and then go to my various depth charts to compensate for the roster moves I've just made. Very seldom do I have to go back to the roster after that (I *will* sometimes go back to the roster screen to check my opponent's roster). Maybe if I find that I deactivated a special teamer that I really shouldn't have. That's personally about it.

Same here. I think the MP vs. SP experience is huge here.

I don't think this would bother me all that much for MP where i know my players in and out. But the way I play SP, I do not get to know my palyers NEARLY as well and often can only name one or two guy. That's where this becomes a difficult way to manage your depth chart.

Catch-22 for me. As its constructed now, the depth chart is so tedious, that I'll never play a career long enough where the knowledge of my team would be deep enough to not need the scout view visible and scrollable on the depth chart screens.

I have been using recommend exclusively, and that's no fun.

Just thinking about this some more this weekend...

I think for a lot of folks, the FOF2K4 depth charts were *how* they became more familiar with their team (on a granular level). Being able to cycle quickly through all the ST guys or all the DE-eligible guys helped me get a much better handle on my team.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I play the game exactly as Jim envisioned it when he was constructing these screens. I use the main roster screen to become familiar with my team and already know what adjustments I want to make before I even get to the depth charts.

I don't see what you miss out on by having more information there? Even if you never look at the ratings displayed on the depth chart screen what do you lose by having it there? Screen resolution has improved a lot for most people between fof2k1, fof2k4, and fof2k7... you'd think the move would be to include more information on more screens, not less.
