PING: People familiar with Des Moines

Me and my brother are heading up to Ames for the Mizzou game Saturday, but we will be staying in Des Moines both tonight and tommorow night. What are some good, friendly places to hang out and have a few beers? We are both the sports bar type not "A Night at the Roxbury". We are staying at the Hilton if you are real familiar with the town and what would be in the vicinity.

There's a Cracker Barrel next to a gas station out in West Des Moines. That's all I remember.

Appreciate the response, but I don't think I have ever been to a Cracker Barrell to do anything other than eat.

They have rocking chairs. And checkers. And sometimes cute little ceramic frogs with sayings like "World's Best Grandma" on them. But you're not interested in Night at the Roxbury stuff, so I'll hush.

Does Cracker Barrel even serve alcohol? Maybe you can get ahold of some fermented maple syrup?
