House Rules and any other hints?
I have no desire to call each play in a game. But I do enjoy setting gameplans.
I know injuries should be set to 200 for the most realistic experience. Are there any other tricks of the trade that you guys use to keep things interseting that I should know about? |

In my Chargers Dynasty, I listed some common house rules. Not perfect, even for 2k4, but a good starting point for 2k7.

What I am actually looking for is an explanation on how you guys like playing the game. For instance do most of you quick sim? Call plays? Spend time scouting each game...etc.

Depends on my league.
In my single-player league, I go the fastest. Setting up active/inactive players, letting the AI do the rest. Take a quick look at opponent's scouting report. Simming the week, reading the box score, rinse and repeat until late season, when I might start watching the games. I watch playoff games. My goal in this league is to go pretty fast. In my nightly multiplayer league that I do with my 2 best friends, I try to follow the league as much as possible. I check so many stats after every game, adjust my depth chart (I'm not much of a gemaplanner) to my liking, and keep close tabs on all the other teams in the league. This is the league I follow the most closely. I'm also in the eNFL, which sims 3 games a week. So between each, I get slow, medium, and fast-paced results. Even my single-player is slower than most quick-simmers though. |

I like the long-term, roster management, career-watching aspect of FOF, so I don't get into the nuts-and-bolts as others might. I prefer to focus on strengthening my team, so I tend to spend most of my time playing this game during the off-seasons, and I leave the game planning and in-season roster shuffling mainly up to my coaches. I will, however, make some adjustments depending on how my team and my opponents look. I'll typically let the AI suggest a gameplan, then tweak it based on my team's and my opponent's strengths and weaknesses. By and large, most of my enjoyment comes from drafting, trading, free-agency, and contract negotiations. I leave the play-calling and the game planning to the computer. I scout my opponents a bit each game. Look for weak DL to run at, weak safeties to try and throw deep on, or weak LBs to through short passes. I don't get into it too much though and just let the AI suggest the defense gameplan. Although when I start a serios dynasty (that I plan to post about in the Dynasty Forums to go with my TCY dynasty), I'll probably try and take a much more active role in gameplanning. I never call my own plays. |
