Jim is Cool Thread

I wanted to start a thread to say Jim is cool. He personally emailed me about four times with detailed replies to questions I had for him. I hate to see it when people bash him because the truth is he tries his best to make a great game that we all love to play. If everyone gets the personal treatment I get, I would think he is not only busy designing games but working his tail off all day long to make customers happy!

Thanks Jim!

Ehh, Jim's OK, but he's no Ted Danson.

I know you jest, but when I was a med student, one of my professors told me that the secret to being considered a great doctor (by patients) is to get back to patients in a prompt manner when they leave messages. Guess what, I think that is primarily the reason my patients (at least many of them) think I'm great.

I think that works for other fields as well. Prompt, personal attention to the customer goes a long way.

I guess I just expect a guy to answer emails who is running his own little business. To me he doesn't get points off for doing it but isn't considered to be going above the call of duty either.

Doctors should respond to messages promptly, too. But, most don't (at least in my experience.) Customer service in many fields is lacking, including small businesses. That is why Jim earns respect from me (and apparently others) for answering emails promptly.

I think because of the so-called degradation of customer service among most businesses in this country (world?), Jim is considered extra-special because of his personal attention.

In another time, his work would be considered standard practice of course. I believe consumers have become so terrible by tolerating poor service that we give perhaps too much credence to what Jim should already be doing. Obviously I think Jim is a great guy and runs a great business, so don't consider my words a criticism of him or his company.

I suspect Wal-Mart is behind all this. Because if nothing else you can never go wrong blaming Wal-Mart. Its the monster we all hate until we need lightbulbs.

Not sure what it matters but I can't resist asking. How exactly do you know he's a great guy?

I know he makes a good game and answers email. That's about as deep as I can go with it since I don't know the guy from a hole in the wall. Maybe he molests collies. Maybe he helps old ladies across the street. I have no idea.

I was born and raised in the South, sir. Everyone is "a great guy" until they slap your mama.

Edit: I said "I think," as that's the best way to excuse myself should any charges be pending against Jim.

Looks to me like you've been gone too long.

I suppose I could spend hours upon hours of time analyzing, doing background checks, and getting back histories of everyone who impacts my life in some way. I mean, there is a cute waitress who has served me for over a year at a little diner by work. She's married and has a kid (Her kid and hubby come into the diner often for lunch). She does a great job and seems like a very nice person.

I guess it's possibe she clubs baby seals for fun in her free time. Or maybe she likes torturing babies. Maybe she hacked up her parents and dumped them in a lake. I don't know.

What I do know is that I like her, find her to be the best waitress I've ever had, and that she seems to be a pretty cool person.

I would have no quailms starting a "Susan is great" thread if I thought it meant something to anyone here. And there is a chance I could be wrong.

Rather than worry about the background checks and all of that other stuff, I just use the information available to me to make an assumption and change the assumptioin as more information comes in. I think Jim is cool because he put out good games, treats his customers well, is responsive to emails and has always treated me well whenever I've had a problem.

That's enough for me. Not saying it has to be enough for everyone, but I'm good with it.

I really don't care if he is or not or who thinks he is or not. The original statement of him being a good guy just appealed to my weird sense of interest in the sense of you always hear people make "friends" or "date" on the internet.

I think I was flashing back to an episode of Judge Judy the other day where a girl "met" some guy on the internet and sent him money. Judge Judy yelled at her. It was cool.

Yeah, I'm kind of embarrassed by all of the hero-worship here lately.

I mean, he makes good games, apparantly promptly answers emails, and doesn't act like an ass, but a lot of people do those types of things in the business world and don't get gushing posts dedicated to them.

Maybe I should buy a small billboard professing my deep admiration for my Schwans guy.

Actually, I think that point is part of the debate.

Exactly. I've gotten no reply to multiple emails to EA Sports about problems with their games.

Of course, that is EA. Not unexpected.

I've seen many other areas where customer service has deteriorated throughout our country. I've had difficulty in getting a problem with my home phone solved with no reply to emails for days. There are quite a few other examples I can think of in just the last month.

I've also gotten no replies to emails to text sim developers, although several of them are good about getting back in a timely manner. What Jim does should be the norm, but sadly it is not, at least IMHO.

I came this close (holds fingers apart) to starting a "Susan is great" thread.

She just sounds so damn delightful!
