QBs
What are the 3 most important bars when looking at a QB prospect in FOF 2007?
What do you not care about? Cheers |

I honestly don't know if this is the right way, but I prefer a guy with the 'intangibles' and average-low passing skills than the other way round.
So I look for 3rd down passing, read defense, sense rush, two minute offence, avoid interceptions first, and accuracy first, then timing & the passing skills. The only reason I'm not as fussed by timing is I'm not sure what it actually does, and I think I've noticed a lot of the great FOF QBs seem to be low in this category... Kick holding & scramble frequency are the only ones I really don't care about for a starting QB.

I always look at Accuracy & Read Defense....the third used to be Avoid Interceptions.

It's no longer a rating on the player card. It's a hidden rating so you are left with looking at stats only on the QB's proclivity to throw picks.

Nothing happened to his QB's; something happened to the game. That rating is now hidden.

With no hard research, I highly value Accuracy, Timing, and Read Defense. Everything else is secondary.

And you might want to add an intellegent QB to learn more formations quicker. Just a thought.

I used to look at avoid int's most. From here on, it will be the second tier (3rd downs, accuracy, 2 mins offense) and third tier (read defense, timing, sense rush).

I used to rank Avoid Interceptions then Medium and Long and then sense rush. But that's because FOF2004 is geared towards long passing offences.
I could care less about Accuracy and Timing and next to no interest in short and screens. 3rd Down is nice and all but it isn't a huge deal for deep passing teams. I've no feel for what to look for in 2007 but short passing still doesn't seem fantastically successful so I still don't real look at accuracy or screen and short passing. To be honest I tend to look at the overall rating and base my evaluation far more than I should on that. |

Accuracy, intelligence (I think a diverse offense needs at least 13 formations), then a toss up between read defense and sense rush. I've had guys who seemed to be total passing studs but who couldn't sense the rush well and were just duds with 60 sacks a year.

Based on a guy in my current career, I'm liking read defense and timing. Check this guy out:
![]() And his stats: ![]() I've only played about 20 seasons and am not as rigorous as most people here, but this guy is a huge scrub ratings-wise(not even good enough to start elsewhere) and he was able to put up consecutive 115+ QB rating seasons with basically just those talents and short pass, with my offense not really being short-pass centric. |

So... After two extremely impressive seasons in Pittsburgh he signs a nice four year contract with the Bengals for over $10 mil per, and then is the backup?

Did you go control Pittsburgh? If so why did you let him go? He had fantastic stats.

Mainly because the guy didn't have very good ratings and I figured my system would be fine with anyone. It took me a while before I could get a guy around 10 YPA again though

I've always liked timing, read defense, and sense rush. I've always preferred good intangible guys over guys with the golden arm. But, I have come around a bit, based upon the type of offense I want to run.
It seems to me that timing has to do with a guy getting open and getting the ball to him at the right time. So I always assumed that there was a skill roll a defensive player had to make to stick with his man. If he failed and the QB had a good timing roll, he would have a chance to get the ball to the receiver. Accuracy is good too, but you need receivers with good "getting downfield" to maximize it. That said, I had a game in FOF2k4 where my receivers went for over 20+YAC on at least two different plays which is nice. Who said screens can't work in FOF? |

If you have to look for arbitrage opportunities at the QB position, your team is likely in trouble anyway. Rarely do we have the luxury of choosing between multiple adequate QBs with different skills, esp. in MP.

Maybe this is common knowledge, but the sense rush rating is vitally important to offenses that depend heavily on the deep ball. Countless times I've been able to completely shutout these types of quartbacks with a heavy pass-rush.

![]() It turns out these days I'm focussing on the Solecismic test vs intelligence check first, on sense rush second.
