Never had to consider this before--drafting issue.

We are terrible. Just a horrific team. I don't have good players on offense, and I can't gameplan offense in FOF2K7 to save my life. Right now, we make the 2006 Oakland Raiders look like the 1989 49ers.

So, we have the #1 overall pick in the draft, and sitting well alone at the top is a "can't miss" RB. Rated through the roof and combines to back it up.

And, for the first time ever in an FOF game, I thought to myself, "I need to think about, if I draft him, whether he'll be on the downside of his career before I have a good enough team around him to make a difference."

Thanks to the fact that players age faster in 2K7 and it takes longer to build a good team, I have to think (just like a real NFL team) whether I can afford to waste what may be the only 3-4 great years in this running back's career on teams that will be lucky to get to .500

It's a cool decision to have to make.

if hes that good he should have at least 10 great years in him. with him you could build a contender in say 4 years.

but if someone wants to trade you many picks for the #1 spot it would be hard to say no

I'm 95% sure that we will trade down. The #1 overall pick is valuable enough that I can get some real value in return for releasing it.

I just thought that it was interesting that, as part of my calculus, I had to consider something that was never really an issue in 2k4 (because you could turn a team around so quickly).

Also, if your team is that bad, will you really be able to determine how good he is?

That's one thing I really like about the player distribution in this version. If you want to trade down, you can but you're not going to be able to trade down and get three A players instead of an A+ player -- you're going to get maybe an A- and 2 Bs.

On the other hand, if you want to move up it will cost you. I needed a QB and there was an absolute stud sitting at the top of the draft board. I moved three No. 1s and two No. 2s for him. He ended up developing much more slowly than expected and without picks at the top of the draft I wasn't able to surround my new QB with the weapons he needed.

It's beautiful.

Hes a running back. IMO taking a rb in the first rd(or at least above 1(20) is a massive waste. Trade down, get future picks and some good Olinemen/Dlinemen. You will be set for years. Drafting running backs high is the path to a mediocre team.
