We PLAYED in that!??!?!?

Not only did we play in it, by my QB went 27/32 for 271 yards and 2 TDs in it!

Only 4 fumbles in the game.

Heh. For the record, that's about the right timeframe for one of those hurricanes to smash into South Carolina and still be a tropical storm when it reaches Charlotte (or a hurricane if the name is Fran and reaches Raleigh...)

I had a Chiefs at Tampa Bay game with a 45 MPH wind ... glancing through some past schedules now, that's the fierciest wind I've seen by about 20 MPH.

While checking out wind speed, I noticed something else that I don't know is a design choice or an oddity: what is your weather condition in retractable roof stadiums?

My retractable roof stadiums appear to have temperature fluctuations from about 45 to 97 degrees, suggesting to me that 45 degrees is the cutoff for closing the roof. One thing though is that there is no wind in retractable roof stadiums.

I suppose that makes sense because the building envelope is closed and only the roof is open. I've never been in a retractable roof stadium, so I don't know if there is wind or not. Anybody?

There was definitely wind you could feel in the stands when I went to a Texans game at Reliant Stadium.

Because of the void of non moving air inside the stadium you will get air that will be sucked into the stadium, so you should still feel a breeze.

Yeah I'm not very good at drawing lines, but the arrow is clearly pointing diagonally at week 6, rather than straight at week 5.

Mine was better!

(I included the first 90 seconds of the game because it's just that damn good!)

Quote:
Played in Miami, FL, weather: 81 degrees, stormy, 63 mph wind.
Miami won the toss and elected to receive.
Start of first quarter.
(1Q: 15:00) Marshall Prescott kicked off 66 yards from the DET30. Willie Park returned the ball 96 yards for a TOUCHDOWN! Miami 6, Detroit 0
(1Q: 15:00) Extra point by Oscar Lester was good. Miami 7, Detroit 0
(1Q: 14:46) Oscar Lester kicked off 74 yards from the MIA30. Scott Ielusic returned the ball 104 yards for a TOUCHDOWN! Miami 7, Detroit 6
(1Q: 14:46) Extra point by Marshall Prescott was good. Miami 7, Detroit 7
(1Q: 14:33) Marshall Prescott kicked off 68 yards from the DET30. Willie Park returned the ball 8 yards to the MIA10. Tackled by Rodney Emerson. Ball was fumbled and recovered by DET Ernie Sims on the MIA10.
Detroit: Weak formation with two tight ends, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 and 3-deep zone coverage, expecting the pass.
1-10-MIA10 (1Q: 14:24) Shawn Wester pass was thrown incomplete, intended for TE Greg Olsen. The quarterback threw away from the double coverage.
Detroit: Single-Back formation with trips receivers, strength is right. The defense is in a 43 and 3-deep zone coverage, expecting the pass. Viragh and Pierce are blitzing.
2-10-MIA10 (1Q: 14:17) Shawn Wester pass completed to WR Sidney Rice for 1 yard. Tackled by OLB D.J. Greason.
Detroit: Single-Back formation, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 and 4-deep zone coverage, expecting the pass.
3-9-MIA09 (1Q: 13:35) Shawn Wester pass completed to WR Vincent Jackson for 9 yards and a TOUCHDOWN! The quarterback threw away from the double coverage. Detroit 13, Miami 7
(1Q: 13:35) Extra point by Marshall Prescott was good. Detroit 14, Miami 7

Now I actually like the fact that if there is a 63 MPH wind the league says This is football... get yer tail out there! I think the game should reflect the conditions a bit more... In an actual game played in this weather, your QB's and kickers would be non-factors. The two QB's in this game were 20/30 & 20/35, and only 1/10 kicks was missed (wide left on a 49 yard attempt, 1 50 yd kick made, a combined 7/7 on extra points.) There were also no INT's, and only three fumbles and three sacks...

Well, maybe not - if the wind was front to back - you're kickers could be superkickers for 1/2 the game; rather than non-factors !

Man that is crazy. No way would that game have been played but I guess delaying the game to a later date is not programmed in the game.

So, the game basically occurred during a wind that was able to uproot large trees and do considerable building damage; and right on the verge of extensive widespread damage.

Which begs the question, if wind like that doesn't show any obvious signs of effecting the stats, does the wind have any effect at all that we should be looking out for?

Wind does have an effect. I played a game in a 24 mph wind. All the punts with the wind were over 60 yards with one 72 yards.

That's not an effect that you can plan for though. You can't up long FG's, because what if you are against the wind? You can't put them down, because what if you are with the wind? Does wind stop long throws from being accurate?
