Breaking news!: Another Bengal Arrested - Cedric Benson come on down

Not as if this is shocking...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2685643

HOUSTON -- Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver Reggie McNeal was arrested in Houston and charged with resisting arrest after being refused entrance to a nightclub early Sunday.

McNeal, a former Texas A&M quarterback, was arrested outside The Red Door, said Houston police spokesman Gabe Ortiz on Monday.

Ortiz said McNeal approached two officers who were standing near the entrance and became unruly when the officers told him the club was closing. McNeal "became aggressive and started using profanity" when the officers refused to let him enter, Ortiz said.

McNeal walked away, then approached the officers again and elbowed one of them in the chest. Officers detected "a strong odor of alcohol" from McNeal, police said.

McNeal was taken to jail, then released on a $1,000 bond. He was due in Harris County district court on Friday.

McNeal set an A&M record with 6,992 passing yards and rushed for 1,889 yards, the second-most by an Aggie quarterback. The Lufkin, Texas, native set a Big 12 record with 213 consecutive passes without an interception.

McNeal was the Bengals' sixth-round pick and has played sparingly. The Bengals had the weekend off after their Thursday night victory over Baltimore.

"We have been informed that Reggie has been arrested," team spokesman Jack Brennan said. "We don't feel it's appropriate to comment on a matter that's not resolved."

McNeal is the seventh Bengals player arrested this year.

Well, Bengals getting arrested is no longer news. They might as well just put the stories in with something daily like the horoscopes or Beetle Bailey.

I knew it was just a matter of time for McNeal when he was hanging around Henry and Thurman. He was a passenger in one of the Henry car incidents.

When you get arrested for "Resisting arrest" it sounds like you just didn't do a good enough job resisting.

Bengals CB Joseph arrested for marijuana possession

JOE KAY

Associated Press

CINCINNATI - Bengals cornerback and former South Carolina standout Johnathan Joseph was arrested early Monday and charged with possession of marijuana, the ninth Cincinnati player arrested in the last nine months.

The arrest came three weeks after coach Marvin Lewis promised to get tougher on player misconduct, hoping to stop a series of arrests that has embarrassed the team and drawn the attention of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Joseph was arrested on U.S. Route 42 in northern Kentucky. He lives nearby in Union, Ky. The Boone Country sheriff's office arrest report said Joseph was the passenger in a vehicle driven by a woman who had a suspended license, was driving slowly and weaving.

When a Boone County sheriff's deputy asked Joseph to get out of the vehicle, he smelled marijuana. The deputy searched Joseph's black backpack with a Super Bowl logo and found a bag of marijuana in a pouch, the arrest report said.

Joseph was released Monday morning, and his first court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 5. Marijuana possession is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum of one year in jail and a maximum $500 fine.

Joseph left the Gamecocks after his junior season.

He was the Bengals first-round draft pick last season and had positioned himself to take over a starting job next season.

They get until the Super Bowl to reach 10 arrests, right?

They should not be penalized in their pursuit of double digit arrests in one-season just because they weren't good enough to make the playoffs.

This will be an interesting case for the whole new "get tough" policy since Joseph was their first rounder last year and was supposed to start next season.

Cmon, "8 strikes and yer out" is already a pretty stifling policy, I'd hate to see what happens if they move to 7 or 6 strikes....they might have to cut someone.

Bengals' Nicholson arrested on domestic violence charge

Associated Press

CINCINNATI -- Linebacker A.J. Nicholson was arrested on a domestic violence charge Friday, the first arrest of a Cincinnati Bengals' player since commissioner Roger Goodell cracked down on misconduct last month.

Nicholson already was one of nine Bengals players arrested during a nine-month span, turning the team into a prime example of player misconduct. The team had gone four months without having a player arrested.

Police in nearby Taylor Mill, Ky., arrested Nicholson after a woman called 911 on Friday afternoon to say she had been assaulted by the second-year player. He was charged with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.

Goodell introduced a new conduct policy last month that stiffens penalties and holds franchises responsible when their players get into trouble.

Nicholson, a fifth-round draft pick from Florida State in 2006, appeared in only two games last season, when he had a hamstring injury.

Last March, Nicholson pleaded no contest to burglary and grand theft in Tallahassee, Fla., and was sentenced to two months in a work program. He had been charged with stealing electronic equipment and other items from the apartment of a former Florida State teammate.

Nicholson was also placed on two years' probation, which could be jeopardized by his latest arrest.

Taylor Mill police chief Steve Knauf said a woman called police to Nicholson's apartment at 3:10 p.m. on Friday, saying she had been hit in the face. The officer who responded saw that the woman had an injury by her eye.

Nicholson wasn't at the apartment, but later showed up at the police station and was arrested, Knauf said. He faces up to 12 months in jail and a $500 fine if convicted.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the team had no immediate comment because it was still gathering information on the arrest.

The Bengals lead the league in off-the-field player problems.

Receiver Chris Henry and middle linebacker Odell Thurman currently are suspended by the league for misconduct. Henry has been arrested four times since December 2005, and will miss the first eight games next season under a suspension imposed by Goodell last month.

Thurman was suspended for all of last season after skipping a drug test and getting arrested for drunken driving. Last February, he pleaded no contest to drunken driving and received a 90-day jail sentence that was put on hold while he got treated for alcohol abuse.

Thurman's sentence could be reduced at a hearing in June if he stays out of trouble and completes the treatment program. Also, he could apply to the league for reinstatement for next season.

Six of the Bengals' picks from the 2005-06 drafts have been arrested, including Nicholson. The linebacker already had disciplinary issues when the Bengals took a chance on him.

Nicholson was suspended for Florida State's appearance in the 2006 Orange Bowl after he violated team policy by taking a woman to the team's hotel in Miami.

A month after the Bengals drafted him, he faced the criminal charges in Florida. He and another Florida State player, Fred Rouse, were accused of breaking into the apartment of former teammate Lorenzo Booker and stealing items.

Maybe they should put up a sign that says "X days since last arrest" in the locker room, sort of like those days of safety signs in industrial plants. Naturally, they'd have to start it at zero again....
