Bah, complain when it's one of the Super Bowl teams (which happened twice in my 15-year office league).

I think he means like... influenza is a bug. Not that the game has a bug.

Can this be avoided by having one player who has a "bad cold" and listed as probable to sit for the week or will it not matter?

I don't imagine so. The cold and flu viruses are completely different viruses and one doesn't cause or mutate into the other.

I had to chuckle when claret was discussing this. I actually agree with him that anyone who has the flu - for real - can not play to any kind of standard. Anyone who has had real flu knows what I'm saying.

I had flu over Christmas, 2nd time in my life. I'm not in NFL shape, but I am in very good shape. A walk to the bathroom was an ordeal where my chief was not disgracing myself, and I staggered into the wall more than once. Getting there and back was a really big deal. Facing a healthy, opponent of equal ability on a football field? Pretty laughable really.

I totally agree.

Back when I had a real job, I used to see colleagues sitting there sniffling complaining that they had flu.

They always seemed offended when I said 'shut the fuck up, you've got a cold'.

There are different kinds of flu; some much more debilitating than others. One strain could make you bedridden, another only slightly tired.

The non-athlete also does not have an IV in their arm at regular intervals like a pro athlete would prior to and during the game, which provides them the hydration and energy to perform.
