In game coaching

I'm wondering if the computer proves a worthy opponent over the long haul. I'm also wondering if some real football decisions in game can affect things greatly. If I go with a single-back, is my blocking affected? If I spread teams out and force them to go nickel, does that open up the running game? Or, am I just calling plays to be calling plays? Are there really two very distinct aspects to the game if you want there to be. GM and then coach.

Also, are there certain plays that have been found to work no matter what ala the old XOR football game?
