The Definitive Best PC Gamer Ever Thread
Okay, I'm going to do a study of the best PC Games of All Time according to FOFC members. To accomplish this I need you to provide a list of your top five PC games of all time. No ties allowed. I will take the top five on each persons list and use that to begin the process of determining the BEST ever. You do not need to list the games in any particular order at this point. Just your top five. Tark's top five:
Diablo StarCraft/Brood War Baldur's Gate Operation Flashpoint Medieval: Total War Tarkus |

Lets see.
Quake I. The only one I played because it was simple and I had better reflexes back then. These new ones are just too complicated. Championship Manager 3. It got me hooked on CM. Alpha Centauri. Play that still. APBA for Windows. Just something about that game with Ernie Harwell. It was like listening to a game on the radio, best audio sports commentary of all time. Zork I. The first game I ever played on the computer.

Front Page Sports Football 94
DOOM II Warcraft 2 Hardball 3 OOTP 4 - These may not be the best of all time, but the most memorable to me. As you can tell, most of these games are from the same time period (93-97) when I was 13-17. You know, the time in your life when you can sit back and game for hours, sometimes days on end. The magic of "online" (ie modem) play are the reason why warcraft and doom are on the list. |

FPS Football Pro (aka FPS: Football 94)
Wolfenstein 3D IndyCar Racing Doom Panzer General (1) I love games. I play a lot of modern games. But nothing compares to the feelings that I got while playing the above. And judging by some of the lists, I'm more old-school than a lot of you. ![]() |

Sabotai, a lot of yours would end up on my top 20 list. Just mine ended up being a bit newer except for X-Com and Civ.
IndyCar, FPS Football Pro and Panzer General ended up with a lot of my time, as did SimCity (1 and 2000), Moria640, Ultima (4&7), Diablo, MOO, MOM, JNSE, JN6, Links and Wizardry. And those are just the older titles. |

I know what you're saying Blackie. I guess with this poll, I went with pure emotion and the feelings I got when playing these. If you asked me the same question next week, I might pick the 5 games I played most, or the 5 games I thought looked and played the best, regardless of hours spent on them....
Asking for top 5 games from a lifetime gamer is a cruel thing to do. ![]() |

The top 3 (in no order):
------------- Civ 2 X-COM Championship Manager If I absolutely have to extend the list, then you could pick any two of: Half-life, Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Warcraft 2 or Alpha Centauri.

I'm not sure how productive it is to try to identify the specific links in a series when there weren't overwhelming difference among them (in particular the FPS Football series). I'd hate to see such a worthy entry lose out because one person voted for the 95 version, another for the 94 version, etc. I personally got hooked on the original version, and (fairly obviously) enjoyed each upgrade... but which year's version was the "best" is hard to say.
So, with that caveat: Front Page Sports Football ('97 may have been the best release) Wizardry! (the original, if you must) Front Office Football (FOF 2001 gave me the most play) Championship Manager (00/01 so far) Bard's Tale |

Yeah! But while we're talking about games I'd like to see some more diversity among the picks. As much as people like Elder Scrolls-- nobody picked Redguard. Redguard just happens to be the only major PC game with a black lead character and cast. Have you people even given it fair consideration? And just to show what a nice guy I am, I am gonna teach you all how to mack dem 'ho's in while online gaming... ![]() Last edited by oykib : 02-17-2003 at 07:14 AM. |
