Which head coach is most likely not to be coaching his current team?
With one week to go in the regular season, we are less than a week from Black Monday. So which coach do you think will be looking for another job starting Tuesday?
Poll will soon follow. P.S. You can add O.C. or D.C. that you think are gone also. My choice is Tom Coughlin. I think he had one thing going for him coming into the job. He was a hard nosed disciplinarian who could change the "country club" atmosphere the Giants had under Jim Fassel. Well he has been a hard ass but the discipline is not there. There seems to be more chaos than ever before.

A couple of potential no-brainers, but I would be very surprised if Art Shell isn't the first to go.

1. We'll be 8-8 at best. 2. We're highly unlikely to make the playoffs. 3. Blank referred reporters back to what he has already said about these two things. That's just as good as an annoucement to me.

I have a feeling that Denny Green will not get fired. Yes, they were supposed to be much better this year, but looking at their schedule I only see one really bad loss to the Raiders. He probably regrets not starting Leinart from day one. I think Bill Bidwell gives him one more year.

I think he deserves another chance. They'll be crazy if they don't go with Betts going forward, and I see a lot of similar traits in him that I did in Holmes and Johnson. Lets see what they can do with a hard nosed runner for a full season. |

They can do what they did last year which is succeed, make it to the playoffs, and win one round. That's what the Redskins did before Al Saunders came to town. This was done with a hard-nosed running philosophy. This year, under the Al Saunders philosophy? Nothing. Well, not until Gibbs told him to stick his playbook and run the damn ball.

What makes you think that Saunders wasn't "running the damn ball" while in Kansas City? You've heard of Priest Holmes, I presume? The 'Skins will most likely rush for more yards this year than last (they are about 100 yards rushing away from last year's total with a game to go). Their defense, OTOH, has fallen hard. From 9th in total yards last year to 30th this year. And last year's Brunell was much better than this year's two headed monster of Brunell and Campbell, and I'm not sure you can blame the offensive scheme on Brunell's slide.

My dream scenario is that Saban takes the 'Bama job, Gruden gets let go, and heads to Miami, who gets sold to new ownership.
I realize Saban may be regarded as a better coach in some circles, but for some reason, I am not thrilled with him. Me loves Chucky. Make it so, Number One. |

Well, yeah. The fire in his eyes is gone, you can just see it in his press conferences, and to a lesser extent in his sideline demeanor. He should have retired last year, instead of sleep walking through this year seemingly disinterested. I can't wait for a change. |

It's too bad this isn't a checklist one as I think there are a multitude of coaches headed out the door this post-season, as there are many post seasons. I mean he certainly won't be the first but even Bill Parcells could be gone depending on how the Cowboys do int he playoffs.

I am not happy with Saban so far but I am not highly impressed with Gruden. I believe Gruden won a Super Bowl with Dungy's players, though he did beat a team he essentially put together. Since then, the Bucs have spiraled downward. That being said, Saban specifically and the front office in general really need to step up this offseason. In FOF terms, we need to find a scout who is highly rated at QB and at OL. These two positions have been weaknesses for this team for way too long and it seems every attempt to fix is average at best.

I do think Gruden was too quick to get rid of the old guard in favor of new guys in Tampa Bay. Instead of trying to reload, he went for a rebuild that probably wasn't necessary. I'm just looking for a way to get myself fully onboard with the Dolphins, and bringing in Gruden would go a long way toward that goal.

I'm not sure how much of that was his choice, but there were definitely some questionable decisions (such as John Lynch). Despite dropping several 'stars' they really brought nobody in. I think Coughlin is gone, and that's a good thing at this point. Art Shell is questionable, it's been an awful season but fear of the uproar of two black coaches (Green and Shell) being fired, with Shell only being fired after a single year, probably gives him an additional year unless he decides to quit. He's in a terrible situation, but there hasn't been any sign of improvement, infact this team is worse than last year, and maybe one of the worse ever. Mora is likely gone.. And there has been alot of talk about Del Rio being out if the Jags don't make the playoffs, I think that's a mistake but it's possible. I also would and wouldn't be surprised to see Detroit clean house, possibly moving Mike Martz to HC from OC if they think they'll lose him. They've really shown no progress, and if Matt Millen is out this year, I could see whoever took over wanting to put in their own coaches. |

In retrospect, I realize that team was an 8-8 team that caught a break here and there and made it to 10-6. What's worse, they were a flat 8-8 team, not a team on the rise. Anyone who thinks Al Saunders was the problem this year is deluding themselves. The problem was a new offensive system that needs timing to work properly, a quarterback who while I think is a solid performer was unwilling or unable to adapt to the new system and a lack of talent at almost every offensive position. Add to that a defense that regressed from a year ago and you have what you have. Give Al Saunders a little talent and he'll go a long way. Brunell can be the right quarterback in the right system, but this clearly isn't it. Campbell isn't anybody's solution. You can fire Al Saunders all you want, but without a quarterback that team isn't going anywhere. As for Saunders running the ball, if you think three yards a cloud of dust will get you anywhere in the NFL anymore, you're stuck in the past. The Chiefs put up a ton of yardage with Holmes and Johnson. I'm not completely convinced Betts is that type of back, but I think he deserves a chance. |
