QB Controversy: Which one would you start?
I'm about to start Year 7 of my Home-Grown Empty Cupboard Dynasty, and I have a QB controversy brewing. Because I love the enjoyment of seeing a creeper develop, I let a 6th-round QB and a 1(1) pick basically split time for three seasons, and the 6th-rounder won the starting job just barely. However, he got hurt late last year, and the 1(1) guy finally gave a decent performance before getting seriously hurt in the playoffs. I've also got a young guy who is improving, and performed brilliantly in his only regular-season start. Assuming the 1(1) guy comes back 100% (which may not happen), which guy would you go with?
First, the history of this franchise since I took over: Code:
First, meet Ralph Diaz: ![]() ![]() Next up, there's Johnny Blood: ![]() ![]() Finally, young Bobby Jefcoat: ![]() ![]() Last, but not least, a snapshot of their development. (YYYYa= Year YYYY, right before training camp, and YYYYb is Year YYYY right after training camp.) Important Note: With the house rules I'm using, I can't go out and acquire a FA mentor. No players may play for me who have played anywhere else.

I think Diaz has a higher upside than Blood, however, I like Blood's skill set a little bit better.
I'd say stick with Diaz as the team finally broke through with a successful season last year. Give him another year and see if he can duplicate the win total. |

Definitely not Jefcoat. I would guess that his Avoid Interceptions is relatively low. I'd be willing to go with Johnny Blood. It's why he was drafted #1 overall, no?

I'm finding a lot more success out of low rated veteran QB's than with high potential young QB's.
I think if you want to stick with Blood (or Jefcoat) longterm, just bite the bullet and start them, but if you may find yourself looking elsewhere to just give Diaz the start again. Last edited by Dutch : 12-30-2006 at 12:15 PM. |

I choose Diaz, as I would start the process of looking elsewhere for my starting QB. But I have little patience in trying to develop QB's I'm not overly infatuated with (in SP). Last edited by Dutch : 12-30-2006 at 12:17 PM. |

I'd say go with Diaz, and re-evaluate the situation at the end of the season. I don't know about Blood, man. The guy is in his 6th year, and still hasn't developed. Yeah, he got a little bit of upside still, but with the injury, I just don't know. You may want to keep him around if he becomes a mentor, and doesn't cost you a lot of cap room, but that's all.

I've been following your dynasty, SkyDog, and I'd stay with Diaz.

If you've got the team to win next year, I'd give the nod to Diaz. If it's not a Super Bowl team, I'd go with Blood. You're getting to a point with Blood that if you don't play him he'll never been any better than he is right now. Either way, I'd have a short leash.
Jeffcoat had a nice regular season game, but that those playoff numbers are "Bad Rex." |
