Top Ten Signs You're Watching Too Much College Football

From Wednesday night's Late Show with David Letterman:

10. During breakfast, you ask your son to pass the Nokia Sugar Bowl

9. Canceled family trip to Mexico, going to Boise State instead

8. Mailed nude photos of yourself to Brent Musburger

7. Insist on being called "Coach" even though you're a dentist

6. Told your daughter, "I'd love to go to your wedding, but the Northern Illinois-TCU is on"

5. Every time you walk ten yards, three of your friends have to move the chains

4. Instead of a shower, you dump a bucket of Gatorade on yourself

3. Always asking, "What would Joe Paterno do?"

2. Your solution to Iraq-- "I dunno, a playoff system?"

1. In bed, your wife says, "Get a Trojan" -- you come back with USC Kicker Mario Danelo

I was surprised to see that Nokia no longer sponsors the Sugar Bowl. Allstate Sugar Bowl caught me off-guard.

Speaking of which. Of all the sponsors of all the bowl games (and stadiums too for that matter), the only one that has ever had any effect on me is Tostitos. I have sat there, watching bowl games, hear the "Tostitos Fiesta Bowl" or the "Tostitos Bowl Bash" and thought to myself "Hmm... You know, a bag of Tostitos and a bowl of salsa or guacamole really would hit the spot right now". I don't think I've ever acted on that impulse, but I have had it.

Kudos to you, Tostitos. Keep up the good work!

I think part of that is that they were smart enough to sponsor a bowl with a name and location that actually relates to its product. "Tostitos Fiesta Bowl" may be the least offensive corporate bowl name.

Plus a "Tostitos Fiesta Bowl" sounds like a real thing

Look at that party bowl filled with Tostitos.

WHAT?? you mean to tell me that watching the BRUT sun bowl doesn't ever give you the inspiration to go out and buy some so you can have an over distinctive odor whil watching the game?

I guess it would be fair to point out that I've done one of the things on the list... repeatedly.

(and it's not related to Joe Paterno)

My mother-in-law skipped my sister-in-law's first baby shower for the Penn State game against Temple (then 1-9). Penn State won 47-0. Her biggest complaint? It rained the whole game.

I'm not kidding. She's such a worthless piece of shit.

Does it have anything to do with photos?

I'm still not crazy the Tostitos sposorship. I think it dates to when they first sponsored it back when Tennessee beat FSU in the first BCS title game in 1998. I just remember the sideline reporter trying to ask questions to Phil Fulmer after the game had just ended while a Tostitos lackey was forcibly trying to hand him a chip bag. I thought it was a pretty damn crass and obnoxious thing to do. It hasn't stopped me from buying Tostitos on occasion, but the incident still sticks in my mind negatively.

Just to eliminate a few:

10. I don't have a son.
9. I've never planned a trip to Mexico, nor have I ever been to Boise.
7. I'm not a dentist.
6. I don't have a daughter.
3. Already eliminated.
2. I don't talk about Iraq.

I love you guys!

How much does a bucket of Gatorade cost these days, Pumpy?

I've done this as well. I don't know if they still make the lime flavored ones, but I may have to pick some up for the Champ. game Monday night.
