William Clay Ford or Al Davis: You Must Choose One!

This is easy. You must choose one man of these two to own your team. No other options exist.

Do you Commit to Excellence, or Restore the Roar?

Al Davis, just cause he's likely to die first.

Good one. But the way I look at it, Davis has a track record of WANTING to win, he's just incompetent now. Ford is not only incompetent, but it doesn't even appear he is wanting or trying to win.

Ford. Al Davis quite obviously lives by feeding on the souls of those around him.

Even though I'm a Michigan native, I had to go with Ford because I'm first and foremost a Broncos fan.

Al Davis, but only because he seems like he knows how to party. Ford seems like a real stick in the mud.

Is death an option? Because I would choose death over these assholes.

I went with Davis because as nice a guy as I understand Ford is, the Lions began their losing ways when he bought ownership from the group that had control through the 50's. The Lions last won a championship in 1957. That was before the Raiders even existed!

Davis has been about winning since day 1. His team has gone to, and won Super Bowl's. He has made mistakes (L.A.) and the game may have passed him by, but the Raiders as an organization has a historical image of intimidation and winning. Most people can't even remember feeling good about the Lions, and the ream has always seemed to have internal problems and a lack of caring about its past...

A great read about the Lions is Black and Honoulu Blue, by Keith Dorney. He talks of problems with the Lions like how they may have been the primary tenant of the Silverdome, but were always treated by the city of Pontiac (who controled the stadium) as speed bumps between tractor pulls... He also talks of his trip to the Lions new facilities and gives a great insite into what is still part of the problem... Millen may talk a good game, but around the Lions it still seems that football is job #2. Providing a place for Ford brass to hang out and feel important is job #1.

Al Davis. At least things would be interesting. The Raiders were also in the SB only short time ago.

You'd think that'd spell out a certain Ford vote. -- Wrong.

See, I go the other way. You're going to lose both places. But in Oakland, Al Davis WANTS to win in the worst way. He's going to be antsy, wearing that jumpsuit that hasn't been washed in weeks, hanging around, asking when you're going to air it out, checking to see who's up for parol- er, on the waiver wire...

...Detroit, on the other hand, seems more settled. They've built up an institutional history of failure with hope. Keep your nose clean, don't buck the system, and you've got a job there for ten years, easily.

You can build up a good pension in ten years in the NFL.

Which one has a couple of Super Bowl rings? I'll take that guy 100 times out of 100.

I hate Al Davis to the extent that I can't root for my Raiders. I've grown to hate the man. He is diluting the influence of football in my life.

And I voted for him. Don't make me do that again.

I need a shower.

I'd take Ford anyday.

You can fire Matt Millen, you can't fire Al Davis.

The question doesn't make sense. If its my team, why do I have to chose an owner? I'm the owner!

A better question would be: Who would you rather have run your team? Al Davis or Matt Millen?

Here's why you choose Ford. The team might be perenially bad, but you know you won't wake up one morning to find that the team moved to Los Angeles. Which is bad unless you live in Los Angeles, or you want the team to move.

If either one of those guys decided to buy the Boston Bruins, I would be ecstatic. Well, maybe not ecstatic, but pretty darn happy.
