Beckham Facing Resentmeant at Galaxy

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...400609&cc=5901

Quote:

David Beckham is facing resentment from some Los Angeles Galaxy players over his vast new pay deal but his showdown with Real Madrid's chairman has earned him the support of the Real players and given him hope he may play again for the club.

Galaxy midfielder Peter Vagenas, who captained the side to a cup double in 2005, earns £64,000 a year in stark contrast to Beckham's £25.5million agreed yearly package. Vagenas told Radio Five Live: 'Of course there is resentment. I think if people said no they would be lying. But a wise man once said you are worth what you negotiate.

'On the one hand you would say more power to him but on the other hand you think why can't I be earning that?' Vagenas' words will not be welcome to Beckham, but at least the 31-year-old has been given the backing of his current team-mates.

Why can't you be earning that? Because he is David Beckham, and you're Peter Vagenas. That's why.

Great. The players are whining. The league and that club are trying to put their image and prestige to an all new level and they are getting unsettled about it. Were this CM/FM, Vagenas would be listed immediately.

I wonder if Peter Vagina actually wonders why he's not making that kind of money, and fails to find an answer while doing so.

Two things

Who is this wise man who says you are worth what you negotiate? Cause I've never heard it before.

And isn't the point of saying 'on one hand' to name two things?

If anything, this just further shows why he makes £64,000 a year and probably won't even be making that for long.

The rest of his comment may not have even been quoted.

The guy should realize that Beckham's arrival has the possibility of raising the profile of the league and hence EVERYONE'S salary -- you dumbass.

Next up, Vagenas wonders why he can't get the endorsement deals that Tiger Woods gets.

Yeah, but I'd think this is long term for the league. I doubt this guy will see more $$$, unless he kills his wife and then writes a book about it. Oh wait, wrong sport.

Well, theoretically, it is the same sport, just very different rules.
