Holy Crap!!!
Man. Sometimes it's not so bad living in the upper Puget Sound.
I am presently looking at a HUGE bald eagle who decided he/she wanted to chill out on my deck. It's unbelievably beautiful and unbelievably large. It's probably about three feet from beak to tail, and I swear that when it first landed, it's wingspan must be 6 feet at least. I really, really wish my wife hadn't let her mother borrow our digital camera. One of my cats is looking out the window at it, and thanking God that he's an indoor cat.  |

Shoot! My rottweiler just woke up and realized that the bird was out back, and started barking at it. It lifted off with an audible "woosh, whoosh, whoosh!", and disappeared over my house.
Hopefully, it'll remember liking my deck, and come back again soon. Next time, I'll have that damned camera. |

I really like Puget Sound. I took a ferry ride while i was in Seattle over Christmas and the view around the Sound is amazing.

Did you guys read about the bald eagle that was killed flying into power lines...it was carrying a full grown deer head. Unfortunately, the eagle didn't survive. I think it was on CNN, the incident happened in Alaska.

This is a great time to see bald eagles out here in Western WA. If any of you folks come out here to visit in December or January, head east from Mount Vernon along the Skagit River. The eagles are here in high numbers during that time of the year because they are feeding on spawned-out salmon. This year they are saying that the numbers of returning eagles is much higher than normal too.
That being said, I can relate to your experiences Schmidty. Where we live, there are numerous bald eagle nests around our house. The eagles here are year-round residents. My favorite is watching the young eagles play "tag" in midair. They chase each other and flip around in the air. |
