Avoid Ints in 2007?
This could be nothing, but for once I actually looked at what Gridiron Greta had to say. It was discussing "most careful QBs". Hmm, is this what I think it is? You only have the top 10 guys rated, but I wondered if it was based on the hidden avoid ints bar.

Good thought - I hadn't made the connection, but it makes sense.

You're on to something.
And as an aside, I really hate that the avoid int rating is gone. It just doesn't make sense to me. Why not get rid of all ratings? why just this particular one? I mean, imagine the scene - a GM talking with his college scout about this latest kid, a QB prospect: GM: so tell me Bill, what's the kid like? Scout: well, he's a great touch passer, reads defensive coverage and the pass rush real well. He's not much of a scrambler, but he runs an outstanding 2 minute drill. GM: Sounds promising! Does he throw a lot of picks? Scout: *blank* GM: Bill, I asked if he threw a lot interceptions? Scout: *whistles* GM: Bill? Scout: Well, to be honest boss, we at the scouting dept feel that interceptions are really not that important for a QB, therefore we did not really keep track of them... I mean, come on! /rant

Do we *know* that there is a hidden interception rating? I'm wondering if interceptions are more of a conglomeration of all of the other attributes now (Read defense, the various throwing distances, etc.) I've noticed my most careful QB's have high read coverage abilities as well as good throwing abilities.

To be fair, you can just look up the guys stats and find out all kinds of stuff pertaining to his hidden "avoid interceptions" rating. For instance, how many interceptions he threw. ![]() |

I believe it was said somewhere that there is a hidden Avoid Interceptions rating as well as a hidden Avoid Fumbles rating. I think Jim did that for more realism, since we were able to see both of those ratings for players in FOF 2k4. While not the same thing as an Interception rating, I think the Avoid Interceptions rating worked with the other attributes as you explained above. |

If you open the csv file you can see all the different categories. This is what’s needed for a QB with Jim’s explanation:
Column Y: Completing Screen Passes. Column Z: Completing Short Passes. Column AA: Completing Medium Passes. Column AB: Completing Long Passes. Column AC: Completing Very Long Passes. Column AD: Completing Third-Down Passes - ability to convert those pressure-packed third- and fourth-down throws. Column AE: Scramble Frequency - desire to abandon the pass and scramble downfield. Unlike most categories, this rating is not assigned on a logarithmic curve. Column AF: Avoid Interceptions - ability to avoid throwing interceptions. Column AG: Passing Accuracy - ability to connect with receivers in full stride, maximizing their ability to gain yardage after the catch. Column AH: Passing Timing - ability to connect with receivers who deviate from the planned play. Column AI: Sensing the Pass Rush - ablility to avoid sacks. Column AJ: Reading the Defense - ability to adjust to effective defensive pass coverages. Column AK: Two-Minute Offense - ability to pass when the team is running a hurry-up offense. Column AL: Preferred Play Style - the set of plays a quarterback is most comfortable running. You can choose a roll-out offense (1), which is best for quarterbacks who like to run a lot, or a short-pass offense (2), ideal for what's often called the "West Coast Offense", or a long-pass offense (3), which is a more traditional approach to passing. Use 0 for non-quarterbacks. |

My memory might be faulty, but I thought there was just speculation on those points and not a definitive statement (although I do believe there is a hidden avoid fumble rating.) I'm looking around to see if I can find anything definitive on that. Edit: Just saw Northwood's post. I think that is the best evidence of a hidden avoid interception rating.

I think Jim mentioned it somewhere that there were hidden ratings for these.
