Thoughts on the split FOF2K7 Forum?

When I split the forums, my intention at the time was that it would be temporary. However, I'm liking the split more than I ever would have guessed. Here we are, 4 1/2 months after the release, 3 1/2 months after the most recent patch, and 12 different FOF2K7 threads have been posted in today. That *never* would have happened with past versions. I may be wrong, but it just feels like new-to-FOF people are more willing to post their questions in a dedicated forum, rather than in a free-for-all GD forum where just today's posts take up a page and a half. I'm strongly inclined to leave it the way it is, but I'm also curious as to what y'all think. I'd appreciate a vote, and a sharing of thoughts as well.

I would only consider combining it if the other forum dies down in threads talking about the game itself. Otherwise the separate forum is great.

Keep it as it is now.

Now if we want to see opinions and information on the game it is easy to find. Likewise, if we want to read up on who is drunk as a skunk, or just view interesting tattoos, we have a place for that as well...

I like one forum for everything. But, if you are going to have seperate forums, I would suggest creating a forum for all the different text simmulations that are popular here.

I disagree. Since this is Front Office Football Central, the emphasis should be on that game.

I love the split forum. It makes it easier to check out both aspects of the forum. I don't own 2k7 yet, but when I do buy it, having the separate 2k7 forum will let me check out the threads there without sifting through everything else.

Doesn't matter to me. I don't own FOF2K7, and I'm not buying another version without custom league sizes and expansion, so I can do without the on-topic discussion. Leave it.

It wasn't a well-received decision, and I myself pretty much thought it to be just a temporary "necessary evil." I'm surprised how much I like it. The FOF2K4 strategy forum was probably started way too long after the release, and a little too specific in nature for it to really take off. I think a big help was the ease of mass-moving threads in the newer version of vbulletin that we now have. The forum will always be slower than OT, but there's much more action there at this point than I would have ever predicted. It's pretty cool that EF27 hasn't had to stretch all that much to come up with relevant links for Coaches' Corner.

(By the way, if you haven't checked out the Coaches' Corner sticky thread, it has become a very nice strategy resource for the new game.)

Bah. To be honest, I find myself playing the newer game more than I've played previous versions. While I'd like to learn more about the game, I just don't find myself going to 2k7 forum unless I know that there's a thread there I want to see.

I was pretty negative about the change but this sort of sums it up for me. The bad thing is I think I often miss useful FOF2k7 threads because of just forgetting to go there - so in the end I end up not wanting to catch up on 20 threads at a time.

That being said, it is nice to have a one-stop shop when I do want FOF2k7 talk.

I realize old habits die hard, but I've got the forumlist (the one listing all the forums) as my bookmark, rather than just "Off Topic".. I routinely scan the FOF2K7 forum for tidbits, even though I hardly post there.

Agreed. Back in the day, I think the I-don't-like-it group was as big as the keep-it-as-is group is now. My compliments on making that decission which back then wasn't well received and now is regarded as an excellent move.

I voted to put them back together. I didn't buy the new game, but I'm still curious about it (since this is the first Gindin game I haven't bought). However, since I never check the other forum, I never read about the game at all. The result is that I haven't learned anything since the game has been released to make me want to buy it.

I too, often forget to check the FOF board. Strangely enough I would have voted keep it this way until the day before yesterday when I wanted to go to the nifty list of links that used to be at the top of the page and it wasn't there. I had to separately go to the other forum and realized it was there.

Now, likely an oversight but it really made me miss the one forum days so when this poll popped up I voted that way.

Really though, other than the sticky, I liked the division, as long as traffic makes it reasonable.

My experience is that a split forum is better for the new users trying to get into the game and slightly worse for the "old pros" who occassionally like to spread their wisdom. IMO, I would err on the side of protecting the new gamers and making sure they can see answers quickly (instead of digging through two pages of threads on WOW guild characters and american idol contestants).

I'm with Franklin on this one. I did't buy the new version because the last twothat I did buy really weren't major improvements beyond the AI getting better. I loved multi-player at first but have'nt had enough interest to rejoin any leagues again.

Add the items Frank suggests and I'll pre-order the game.

How many werewolf head coaches are there in the NFL?

Besides Shanahan.

We may need some kind of rule when interviewing for the head coach.

What? Should I have posted that opinion in the dedicated FOF2K7 forum?

I think whether or not I buy the game is a factor in whether or not I care if the forum is split. And while I'm at it, I figured I'd explain why I didn't buy the game, seeing as how it's the first Solecismic product I haven't bought. Sheesh. Threads have been jacked for worse reasons.

Dola -- lemme explain further.

I think there's not been two people more vocal in their opposition to pretty much anything SkyDog has done than you and I. Alot of the things he does I simply do not agree with. Some of those decisions that I was absolutely against have turned out for the best (like the Werewolf separation), and some haven't. But aside from banned people, we've been the most vocally opposed to his actions as a whole.

One of the things I always wanted him to do is to discuss with us, the board members, before he makes decisions on the board. That's what he's doing. Even if he completely ignores the results of this poll, at least he took the time to ask us what we thought. The very least we can do, you and I, is answer him in a non-snarky, non-judgemental, helpful way, and I don't feel you did that. Rather, you responded by criticizing the game, of which SkyDog has NO CONTROL over. Say "No" and leave it at that, then discuss your problems on a separate thread. There's really no reason to bitch about the game itself, since that's not what his question was.

Maybe I'm just getting old, and argumentative, and if it's that, my apologies. I just figure if I'm gonna criticize the guy, I should at least recognize when he's doing a good thing, and overall, I didn't think your "I'm not buying the game" comment really added anything to the conversation.

Then again, I could be reading into things far too much, which I do alot too. :-)
