I'll take "WTF" for $100, Alex.

hxxp://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/4636958.html

Fans of Jeopardy, rejoice!

The popular game show hosted by Alex Trebek likely will be pre-empted at 4 p.m. today on Channel 11, which is carrying the NCAA basketball tournament — a bummer because the Jeopardy Web site says something happens on today's show that is unprecedented in the series' history.

Feeling the pain of Jeopardy-holics, Channel 11 said it will show the episode at 4 p.m. today if basketball finishes early. If not, the station will carry Jeopardy at 3:37 a.m. Saturday.

That kind of hype never delivers. I bet it's the first time all 3 players had moustaches.

First time all 3 are bald?

Though everyone winding up negative would be awesome!

Triple tie. It seemed to be forced simply because the leader wanted to be a cool guy, 16k for everybody!

3 way tie at 16K, basically the winning guy bet so that if everyone got it right, all 3 would tie, instead of betting/not betting the extra $1 and winning.

Maybe all three contestants go negative and miss final jeopardy?

Or a three-way tie at the end (less exciting).

Hmmm... I just missed it, too.

I like this strategy, actually -- assuming he had a decent lead on them after that round, why not sign up to play them again? He knows he's better than them, why not play them both again rather than roll the dice and maybe come up against a monster?

I vaguely remember someone intentionally tying on the fifth day, years ago.

I think that strategy would only be beneficial if you know you have a very large advantage over both opponents. You're going to be going up against opponents who now have a game under their belt, are feeling a little less anxiety, and (most importantly) have had 57 chances to better get the timing of the buzzer down right. I think I'd rather take my chances that an Ivy League Serial Killer lies in wait in the green room rather than give a player, much less two, another chance to beat me.

I personally prefer the 4 way with onions, but a good 3 way is nice.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around how you'd strategize for something like this.

Number one, the only way all three players can tie at the end would be for at least two to be tied going in.

If you've got $7200, $9600 and $14,000 it simply isn't going to work unless collusion is taking place.

Number two, how do you predict how much the 2nd/3rd place guys will bet? If the game is tight enough, you'll have some strategy going on and some natural variation in final totals. If the lead is substantial enough, you'd have to basically tank the question and throw good money away to force the tie.

Granted, the closer your lead is to 2x your opponents, the less you'd have to throw away, but if you're really so dominant that you feel comfortable doing something like this...I don't know.

The other two guys had $8,000 and had bet it all on Women of the 30's.

Since you are originally from NE I will tell you that Cincinnati chili is quiet funny. It is basically a meat sauce that would normally put of some form of pasta. Then if you go to 3-way they give you about 5 times more cheese then you would ever need.

...And it's sweet instead of spicy, so it really isn't chili at all.

I agree with that last part of your comment, that's for sure. You are incorrect though on the first 6 words of your statement, though most would make the same mistake.

I was just thinking about this again this morning. I guess the other benefit of using this strategy is that the next day, the other guy might return the favor? It doesn't have to be a 3-way -- even if there's not a tie between 2nd and 3rd place, why not bid an amount that will tie the 2nd place guy (assuming he bets it all)? Then if the next day, you're in 2nd place, and that guy is in first, he might do the same thing?
