Man, if I only had time for this... I loved SHIII, but never had the time to really do it justice.
Now flight sims on the other hand.... |

I bought SH 3 but ended up never installing it due to the StarForce copy protection.

I got rid of my SH3 because of Starforce. Does anyone know if this one is coming with Starforce as well?

It does not have Starforce. Which is why I bought it. Which I will regret until it's patched.
And now I wait for them to patch the fucker. Again. Unless you LIKE playing games where pressing 'A' (maintain depth) crashes the game. |

After working around the bugs and playing around with it, I can saw two things.
1) If the bugs are patched, this game will rock. 2) This game does not rock right now, but the things that do work are quite spiffy. |

I played SHIII quite a bit, and thought it was very exciting. Especially when you found yourself attacking from shallow waters (English channel) or trying to outwit those pesky destroyers and sub-hunters. Very intense.
SH4 is a must buy for me, but it may be a while before I actually plunge in, the next couple of months more me will be hectic (RL). |

I'll be picking it up next month when it hits our internal purchasing list...

Some new features:
- more dynamic campaign. Not really new if you used GW 1.1 or GWX for SH3, but still a welcome addition to vanilla SH. - Pacific (and American) as opposed to Atlantic (and German) opperations. - different mission types; photo recon, marine and agent insertation, and supply as well as combat patrols. - a new 'hollywood' type graphic filter (that alot of people don't like) that gives the game a grainy movie like apperance. - revamped crew structure. Crews work in 3 shifts, so you only have to worry about fatigue if you are in battlestations. - revamped damage control. - could be just me, but the game looks better than SH3. On par with GWX graphics wise, IMO. Especially with enviromental effects turned on...the water and weather effects look amazing. I'm running a very high end system though...there are reports of very low frame rates with lower end systems. That being said, I'd wait until at least another patch before purchase. Some bugs are killer; crashes with imperial units (fine with metric though), a bug with the TDC that seems to set your fish about 2-5 degrees off, historical inaccuracies that include graphical errors (American Lancaster bombers, wtf?) to incorrect characteristics of the Mark 14 torpedeo, to name a few. |
