If I hear one more report like this : "Nate Robertson gave up ten runs in five-plus innings Friday, but Leyland was pleased with the way he pitched. . . .", I will kick my dog.

By the way, Nate only gave up 5 runs, but damn, I hate that crap.

I just don't pay attention. Different environment, meaningless games, players with personal objectives to prepare themselves for the season playing against split squads full of minor leaguers. It's just a total waste of time to get anything out of it except what the teams themselves get out of it.

Only things I care about before April 1 is fantasy baseball related: who has won what position battle/platoon role/back end of rotation or closer spot, or who is injured. Everything else I flush down the mental toilet.

Sometimes it really doesn't matter. Guys try different things - a new pitch, a new delivery, a new pattern of pitching, etc., that can quickly get them torched. So maybe Robertson was in that mode. Who knows. It really only matters fo guys fighting for jobs, or if it carries over into the real season.

And that's particularly the key... it's like when a guy is sent to AAA for rehab. The stats don't matter, it's about getting the fastball going, locating the curve, etc.
