Ping: RendeR and other tabletop RPG gamers ...

I'd like advice from the tabletop gamers, specifically about an idea for an adventure, and how viable you think it might be if you were a player.

I'm interested in running a modified version of Alderac's "World's Largest Dungeon" (link is here), but I need a hook to get the 1st level characters into it. So, I thought of a theme park, a setup much like something out of Jurassic Park, a dungeon where "entry-level" adventurers go to gain experience before jumping out into the big world. The idea is they would experience and fight monsters, but in a controlled environment, with healers/sorcerers/warriors waiting in the wings if they get in trouble.

The creators of this concept, to save a little coin, set it up in an already existing dungeon, abeit a really, REALLY small one, only they didn't know their small dungeon was actually just the opening part of a MUCH larger one.

Does this idea sound interesting to you as a player? Be honest, here, because I need to find a hook, and I don't want to go into the game with the players without one.

It doesn't sound very interesting to me. Of course, if you are using the World's Largest Dungeon, I'm probably not the type of player you are really catering to. I much prefer something with a lot of backstory and history (ala Ptolus or something similar).

That seems like a decent hook. You could also take a page out of the Gladiator movie. They are slaves/captives about to be forced to fight monsters/each other but need to be trained first so they can draw bigger crowds.

Looking for 4-6 first level characters in a d20 campaign that is mostly in a dungeon. The concept is WestWorld meets d20, the idea of a park where people can go to live out fantasies of being powerful adventurers in a tightly controlled environment, for a price. The organization is building an expansion, and needs testers to ensure the paying customers will be safe. The testers are your characters.

Yup, in the Myth-Weavers forum, which is designed for gaming. There's dice rolling in about 100 different ways, which are embedded codes like the spoiler code we have here. So, if you would type [dice]6m4d6v1[/dice], the result on the page would be 6 rolls of 4d6 subtract lowest roll (6m=multiple rollsx6, 4d6=4 rolls of 6 sided dice, added together; v1=drop lowest 1 roll). If you go back and edit the dice rolls results, it flashes red so everyone knows what you did.

You create the character sheets online (built into the system), and the DM has access to the sheets to adjust and change. Typing [spell=magic missle] automatically gives you a spoiler-ish tag where is gives a complete description of the spell/feat/skill you're using. Anything listed in the SRD is available.

[Private] tags mean only the username you list can read the info you're typing in, so if you do a regular post describing what your character is doing, then go [private=DM] I steal XX character's bag [/private], then only the DM (or username "DM") can read that part of the message. That's good for the "passing of notes" that everyone sees in table top gaming.

There's tons of other tags as well, like "OOC" and "Action" tags.

The site's pretty neat, overall.
