MP Question: Can you run extra sim before camp for holdouts to get weight training?

I'm in two MP leagues, both right before camp and a thought occured to me as I was assigning weight training. I noticed I could not make assignments to my rookie holdouts that I also had contract offers pending with. So I wondered, what's the point of letting me offer them new contracts, but not being able to get them weight training assignments if they happen to sign before camp? Would seem to me the game should let us get the contracts done, then do the camp and weight assignments. I offered this as an idea to do an extra sim in those two leagues, and now folks are asking is this even possible. Well, is it? If not, then I suggest this be an issue for future patches as it just doesn't make much sense to be able to get them signed at that point, but not get the full game benefit with the weight training option. You can certainly do this in SP, so why not MP?
