I am earning my summer break

One of the cool things about being a teacher is the 2.5 months off for summer break. I have only next week to go before my break is here, so I am starting to get excited about it. However, suddenly everything I touch breaks. Monday, the power cord for my laptop went out. I tried to go to Radio Shack for a replacement, and not even the universal adaptors will fit my machine. It uses a tip they didn't have in stock. I have ordered a new one online but it will be probably tomorrow at least before it gets here. Basically everything I do is on that laptop. My teaching job quadruples in difficulty without it. So hooray for that.

Combine that with my office computer going down. Now I have no computer at work at all. This happened on Monday as well. It just randomly stopped booting and going directly to bios setup. My job is basically impossible without a computer of some sort.

Now, on he way home from school yesterday, the car goes. Had to have it towed to the repair shop where it is now. I guess I will get an estimate of how much it will cost me today. On the way back from picking my wife up from work, which I will now have to do for a couple of days since we are down one vehicle, my iPod freaks out on me. I got the little support address to pop up on the screen.

I get home for the evening and my dish network is screwed up. It won't acquire the satellite signal. At this point my dog almost went through my wall (my choice, not hers, but I controlled myself).

What could be next? Surely something, right? Yep, while doing the dishes, my garbage disposal stopped working. Just buzzes when I flip the switch. Went out right in mid-use. You're kidding me, right?

Then this morning I find out that my school is having trouble with certifying me as "highly qualified" (a new part of the No Child Left Behind stuff) in one of the classes I teach. No problem in the others, but mysteriously one subject it shows me as lacking in the computer. I am not lacking, but that doesn't mean I don't get the hassle of paperwork and stress over it.

While researching that this morning, the office tells me that they only have a copy of my transcript and not an original. Baloney, I specifically remember giving them my original. And now I have to deal with that, too. Sounds easy, right? Nope. I am paying off a bill I owe the U of A monthly, and it is like pulling teeth to get a transcript from them when you owe them money. I know because I went through this BEFORE when I got one for my employer.

Oh, and the Spring Concert, which is what should be receiving my full attention at this point, is tomorrow.

Sorry about the rant, but I needed to. Back to "work."

Wow that sucks. I'll echo the above post and also say to hang in there! It can only go up.

Of course I left out the fact that my son had to go to the doctor today and my class of 7th graders got to point out that my pants zipper was down in the middle of class this morning. Anyone have any Drano?

If the garbage disposals blades aren't turning, you can buy this nifty little tool for like 6 bucks that might un clinch them.

I'd turn mine on, and all it'd do is buzz, maybe you have the same problem, something jammed it.. Anyways, hopefully that's a solution to a small part of your problem.

Very cool. Almost brought a tear to my eye. I really appreciate it. Had no idea this existed.

Got anything to erase the memories of a group of 7th grade girls?

My 9th graders have just spent three days creating lesson plans of their own to teach the class about Romeo and Juliet. I was at an off-site meeting today, but tomorrow, the Act 1 group is supposed to present. What are the odds that they are ready?

Maybe you can spin it as Nintendo's got you so excited about your Wii that...actually, maybe you'd better not.

Just found out it will cost about $500 to repair my car. There goes my plan to buy a DS.

Ding ding ding...Period 1 did a decent job, and period 7 taught pretty well, although they missed the point of what they were supposed to be teaching. Periods 2 and 5 didn't teach at all. The groups in that class preferred to take a 0/100 than do the work. Never seen that before. At least not twice in one day. We'll see about the Act two groups tomorrow.
