Bears Hester switching to offense

http://www.chicagobears.com/news/New...?story_id=3420

Team wants to use him like Reggie Bush. This could be huge for the Bears offense.

You can't fight fire with two in the bush.

He couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a halogen lamp.

Best line from that article?

Quote:
Hester lined up on offense for one play in 2006, but he was unable to snare a low pass from Rex Grossman

So what now? Chicago fans get to see this happen ten times a game instead of once a season?

"We are going to throw incomplete passes in the general direction of the most exciting playmaker in football!"

Good job.

It will be interesting to see if this works out. I can't recall too many instances where teams have successfully used a great return man in their offense. The Lions tried it with Mel Grey back in the day and have tried the same with Eddie Drummond. The Chiefs never seemed to be able to get Dante Hall involved in the offense.

If I recall correctly, the problem with Mel Grey was that he wasn't smart enough to play offense. Is the same true for Hester?

If it does work out, he could become quite the weapon for the Bears, even if he only plays a handful of games a year.

These are the same minds that have decided Rex Grossman is ok as a starting QB. I wouldn't be optimistic.

Seemed gimmicky at first, but thinking about it more, I like it. Worst-case scenario, throw a couple screen passes to him and see what he can do.

I think worst case scenario is someone takes his head off.

Terry Metcalf was the man:
In 1975, he set a then-NFL record for combined yards with 2,462. One of the best all-around weapons I can remember: rushing, receiving, returning.

I'd be more optimistic with him as a pass-catching tailback if he hadn't had such a problem with dropsies as a returner.

Can he play QB? If not, this really doesn't matter.
