price for sweetness

It's 1975 and I'm the Bears. And there's Walter Payton at the top of the draft. This is an alternate universe, of course, where I nearly reached the Super Bowl in 1974 with Gale Sayers, Dick Butkus and Archie Manning (thwarted AGAIN by those darned Cowboys). So my pick is like 23 or 24. I throw everything at Buffalo for the number 1 pick overall. I think my biggest offer was J.D. Hill (who's a young All-Pro), my first, second and first next year. "Not enough talent in return." So I give up.
My question is: when can I expect to have a reasonable shot at trading for Sweetness and what's it going to take? Obviously you don't know my SP at this point, but maybe you've managed to trade for the hottest commodity in the league before (Payton's bars are where you'd expect them to be, although my scout said "very overrated"). I've never attempted a Herschel Walker type trade before and am interested in your stories.
On a funny Bears' note: the top remaining prospect in the fifth round right now is Bob Avellini. I don't see how I can keep myself from taking him. Somebody hold me back!

I started in 1970. Sayers is good, but he's in decline. I played the conference championship game against the Cowboys (lost 24-17, with my last drive ending at their 5) and rode him hard. His longest run was 10 yards on 3rd and 6. He's also starting to fumble a lot. Behind him is a fumbler and a bum.
