Weeds: How Did I Not Know?

Now come on, folks, I rely on the people here to help me with my music and tv choices, given that I mostly listen to BPM on XM or listen to my iPod, and watch mostly Cartoon Network and Comedy Central when I'm not watching sports of some sort. People here have definitely been a part of me watching other shows, like getting me hooked on "The Office." How come I never heard about Weeds here?!?!!? A quick search showed it was discussed, a little bit, but oh my gosh, if I'd realized how good it was, I wouldn't have waited until just before the 3rd season to get into it.

What else have you all been hiding from me?!!?

One of the Olsen twins is joining the show when it returns late this summer. She will be playing an extremely conservative Christian who dates Nancy Botwin's(Mary Louise Parker IRL) son.

Weeds, Brotherhood, The Tudors and Dexter are all good or very good shows on Showtime. There you were told.......2 years later

Weeds, Penn and Teller, and Family Business are all great shows from Showtime. We might cancel HBO after the Sopranos end because their new stuff doesn't look as good as what Showtime is offering.

I'm guessing that a lot of the Weeds fans didn't post in a thread a la the Lost on because we were 'medicated'. That's a Monday night ritual around here.

The DVD sets was less than $20 per season at Fry's.

I've actually had Showtime for almost a year and haven't watched Weeds yet. I see the first 22 episodes are On Demand so i'll have to check that out.

Does anyone know what's going on with The Tudors? I have seen 8 episodes and I have heard there are supposed to be 10 for this season. Episode 10 just came On Demand today, but what happened to Episode 9? IMDB says episode 10 is airing today so I fear I missed it. The last thing I remember seeing is Episode 8 where Queen Catherine walked out of the divorce proceedings. I figured they wouldn't put the last two episodes On Demand to increase viewership, but why is #10 on there and #9 not?

EDIT: Showtime's website lists Episode 9 airing tonight at 10 and 11 ET and Episode 10 next week, but Episode 10 is On Demand while 9 is not at least for me anyway.

Showtime airs The Tudors On Demand 1 week early here. Right now I have episodes 3-10 available.

The IMDB listing is wrong. They counted last Sunday as an new airing when it wasn't because of Memorial Day. Tonight will be Episode 9 and next Sunday is the finale, Episode 10.

Season 3 begins tonight, 10 EST. Mary Kate Olsen's character is from the neighboring uberchurch-ran suburb called Majestic. Matthew Modine and Carrie Fisher also are playing new roles as a real estate magnate and Celia's attorney, respectively.

edit: It sounds like the first four episodes of the new season have been leaked online, if you're fluent in that area.

Can't wait for new eps, though since I buy them through iTunes, I have to wait for it to get posted there (usually only 24 hours after it airs it's up).

I am fluent in "that area" though usually in those avenues, it's a pain to convert to an iPod friendly format, so I'll just wait to get them legally.

This is a show I've been interested in, but since I don't have Showtime I guess I'll have to rent or buy the season DVDs to check it out.

The first season of Weeds was awesome. I thought it was among the best shows on TV at the time. The second season was utterly awful.

I thought the premise was excellent - a suburban mom dealing drugs. Mixing the most mundane thing you can think of with one of the most taboo. Then they turned it into a cartoon in the second year with everything as over the top and absurd as possible. Constantly things made little sense or were completely unbelievable for the sake of setting up a dramatic cliff-hanger or twist. It's been a huge disappointment as I had really high hopes for the show.

Dexter is head and shoulders above every other Showtime show, in my opinion, and even that show has its flaws.

If someone does it and can reasonably match up the skin tone, I'll send that person $2.27 via PayPal.

I got through the first 2 seasons of Weeds in about a week after I read about it in this thread and I agree with this. The premise was great. A widowed mom with two kids trying to maintain her current lifestyle by selling drugs. Then in Season 2, Conrad and Nancy started going into their own business and it all went downhill. Everyone was having sex with everybody. Silas with his deaf girlfriend, Doug and Celia even though they hated each other, Uncle Andy with everybody, and Nancy with the penny dealer which was so over the top and just came out of nowhere. The DEA guy was worthless and I'm glad he's dead.

It's still a decent show, but I didn't think the Season 3 opener was good. It was a lame way to get out of that quagmire they were in, but I guess I expected it. Hopefully it gets better as the show is sinking fast. Don't worry though because Matthew Modine and one of the Olesen twins are here to save it.

I have pursued these other means of obtaining weeds because the GF is a huge fan of the show. I passingly pay attention to it while playing around on the PC. I'd say from the first 4 episodes I personally feel it's a big drop off from season 2 which was a big dropoff from season 1. It just isn't working for me at all anymore. The dealer, I can't think of his name now but the ridicously "gangster" one is one of the more painful to watch characters I can remember in any show. The whole storyline is pretty painful now I think.

No Olsen sighting as of yet through the first 4 episodes. I hadn't even heard she was in it until I read this here.

It is still funny at times though.

Dexter we just started, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far, and it's a pretty unique premise. I'm not sure how I missed that one for so long.

I thought the second season was entertaining but a big step down from season one. I gave up on season three after 3 episodes. For those that have stayed with it...is it worth catching up?

The season hasn't improved. The Olsen twin that is on the show is terrible. At this point it's not funny or dramatic. The show was renewed for a 4th season, hopefully someone can come up with something creative to add to the plots.

Turns out, that's at least partially filmed in my neighborhood. I thought the houses in the intro looked familiar, but the waterfall sealed it.

Bought seasons 1 and 2. Watched season 1 and loved it but we're saving season 2 for Christmas day. Hopefully it won't be too disappointing. We snagged season 2 for $12.99 at Circuit City yesterday and bought season 1 for $19.99 at Target yesterday. Not a bad deal overall.

The season opener was played last week already and I completely forgot about it. This is on my watch list along with Entourage and Dexter when those come out in September.

I worked from home today, so while working managed to watch the entire 1st season and a few episodes into the second season of weeds on netflix instant viewing today.

A pretty good show so far, I'll be trying to watch the rest of it now I think. This makes two showtime original shows that I really like now (Weeds and Dexter), but I only have HBO, Max and Starz in my subscription.. doh!
