Cutting Injured Players/Injury Settlement

Something I didn't know until I just tried it out in SP...

Have an injured guy at the end of his career? (Mine tore his ACL the season before and would miss the entire season, his 10th in the league) You CAN free up cap space by cutting him and paying the injury settlement (I thought the injury settlement counted against your cap but it doesn't).

Maybe I'm just a retard

I've been so used to just keeping the players on my team until they retire or their contract runs out that I never would release them and just pay the settlement.

I have a d lineman in the VNFL, Booger McFarlane, who has a degenerative hp condition and is out for what amounts to . . .106 weeks or so. I tried to cut him and pay him the injury settlement weeks ago, but the game won't let me.

Does he have to stay on i.r. for an entire season before I can cut him and pay him the settlement?

Thanks S.D. Unfortunately, I've tried this and it won't let me. I don't know if I'll have to wait to off season, but the release button does nothing for me in this situation. I can wait and try in the off season!

Patience is a virtue!

Am a little confused about how this feature works.

I have a (MP) player who will accept a $3 million settlement. The "warning" screen says that it will save me $0 this season against the cap.

Yet, just to check on this, I agreed (without saving). Suddenly, I have $3 million more in cap room.

Which is it? Do I save cap room by cutting this guy or not? (3 million in salary due his final season of contract, 1.3 mil in outstanding bonus).

I think yo'ud clear cap. The question is, do you get the bonus back? That could be a HUGE boon

No, I know I don't get the bonus back. It seems to me the "warning screen" is exactly backwards.

It said I'd save $3 million dollars this year (on a $3 million settlement) on budget, but $0 on cap.

It seems to me the opposite makes more sense. Since I'm paying the guy $3 million (which turns out to be exactly his due salary for the year), my bottom line wouldn't save a penny. But, if that $3 mil settlement doesn't count toward cap, then I would save $3 million (his otherwise due salary) by cutting him - which is exactly what the roster screen says after I test cut him.

Methinks the "warning" screen coding is screwed up. Has it backwards.
