i'm typing this left-handed because I took a fastball off my right wrist umpiring a Pinto American playoff game today.

Said wrist is currently wrapped in an ice blanket.

Note to parents of young ballplayers: contrary to beliefs popular amopng young chuildren, accuracy does NOT msgically improve with velocity.

If you teach them one thing about baseball, teach them that accuracy comes first. Please?

Feel for you man, and if only people would emphasize that when teaching the basics.

Also teaching the catcher that the more they protect the umpire, the nicer the ump usually is to their team

Yeah, after the ball hit my big toe (after the wrist hit), the coach yelled at the catcher "Catch everything! Nothing hits the umpire!"

That was funny.

Being a guy in his mid-30s that plays soccer every Friday night I could post in this thread once a week.

Yeah. In Boston I played in a league with college kids (Park League and MABL) and partially tore my MCL sliding in to 2nd one game. That in addition to the avulstion fracture in my thumb diving for a ball, and the countless irritation to my torn up cartiledge. Sometimes I guess you have to think about hanging it up (as I'm still playing in Atlanta).
