Today's cuts :

DT Dana Stubblefield, Guard Dave Fiore.

Derrick Deese is targeted to be cut after june 1st since they didn't ask him to restructure his contract.

the same goes for WR J.J Stokes and RB Garrisson Hearst.

Stokes will be cut june 1st, it's almost guaranteed, and I think there is a strong possibility that the same could happen to Garrisson as well.

the Niners want Barlow to be the #1 back, now that he'll enter his 3rd season and that he's shown flashes of brilliance in his first two seasons in the league.
I agree with that : I think it's time for Kevan to shine now.

I agree about Barlow. He has to start.

I guess they also think Heitmann played well enough at the end of the season to be a big contributor on the O-line.

Pick up a pass-rushing D-lineman in the draft!

I would be very suprised if they cut Deese. He had another solid season (no sacks allowed) and they don't have anyone in line to take his place.

Cutting Fiore makes sense since Heitmann played well and Garrison makes sense since Barlow is there.

But cutting Deese without a suitable replacement at the most important OL position doesn't make any sense.

ESPN has also said that Deese was willing to restructure his contract for no net gain, just to stay on the team...

Why are they not cutting Rumph?..what a POS he is....

This team REALLY needs to upgrade it's db's.

Because Rumph sounds like hump...you can't cut the life of the party...

That whole Hearst/Barlow split time thing was an idea right out of the Alfred E Newman school of coaching.

For some reason I'm not sold on Barlow either as an every down guy...

I think Barlow could be great...but I think straight up cutting Hearst is not the way to go. I do believe that it's time for him to start taking over, but if he can't hack it on every down, Garrison will be sorely missed.

Strangely enough, I'm going to be a little sad to see J.J. go...he wasn't completely terrible last year, and wouldn't make a bad #3 WR. Too bad the 49ers don't have a #2 WR.

J.J has had his moments (a very nice '98 campaign) but because of "all the sacrifices" the Niners did in that 1995 NFL Draft (moving up from #28 to #10 giving away a 1st rounder for the following year), the fact that he never lived up to those lofty expectations made his case a harsh one and he disapointed many.

I think J.J Stokes is a fine receiver, but again, because of the way he was picked in the Draft, because of the pressure of him being called right away "the future big time receiver when Rice is gone" etc etc...good was not enough.
