Official 2007 E3 announcement thread.....

Thought it would be good to create a centralized thread to post annoucements as they come out of the Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony and other various press conferences (along with leaked information on other websites). It appears that E3 is going to have a lot of new information about all consoles and PC gaming as well.

Anyone have links to any broadcasts of the press conferences? I know that Sony is doing it on their official PS blog. I'm assuming Microsoft and Nintendo have similar setups somewhere.

Price cuts for PS3 in PAL regions have been leaked. Price cut will likely be 17% across the board, which means that it will sell for 350 pounds in the UK.

It's just talk now for Metal Gear I think... but I also don't think it'll be exclusive forever. Maybe for a short period of time, and then it'll be released on the 360.

edit: I say this because I've heard this for awhile now, with nothing concrete ever being said. I know a friend of mine would be really pissed, because he got a PS3 at launch for MGS and Gran Turismo.

Umm not good news for PS3 unless this is due to a major upgrade of the online shop:

Playstation network currently down:

In what is either one serious case of unfortunate timing or preparation for E3 madness, the entire PlayStation Network appears to be offline, as seen here. Sony previously announced that they'll be bringing E3 to PS3 users, so perhaps this outage is in preparation for that. We'll let you know as soon as we hear something.

[Update: The PSN appears to be up now, though the PlayStation Store is still offline.]

Rumblings are that it will be a timed exclusive. The info I saw was that it would come out for the 360 8-12 months after the PS3 release. They also mentioned that may change with another price drop to $399 for the PS3, which makes sense as most people even in discussions on this board said they wouldn't consider the PS3 until it dropped to at least $399. That seems to be the tipping point right now.

They were planning to add a lot of new demos and trailers in addition to E3 broadcasts. I'm sure that's the reason for it being down.

I hope NCAA07 is one of them for next Thursday but I'm not holding my breath.

A few highlights of the Microsoft News Conference so far tonight for me:

Mass Effect was dated for a November release and they listed about a dozen potentially very good titles that will be out by Christmas.

They've signed an exclusive deal to show Disney movies on Live - all in HD. All future movies from Disney will also come to Xbox Live.

EF27, have you seen any Dead or Alive related info yet? I've heard occasional rumours about a new installment coming in the fighting series part and I'm hoping it'll redeem the step back that was DoA Extreme 2.

Anyone else see the description of this upcoming EA NFL game? I thought that the reason for the exclusive agreement was to keep the NFL game quality high. This just sounds craptacular......

Quote:
Gamers will be able to embark on a fictional NFL road show. With real NFL players as teammates, players will travel across the country to play against each of the NFL teams in newly designed stadiums. As players defeat each of the NFL squads, they come one step closer to winning a NFL contract.

Interesting comments over on the Sports Gamers blog. They had two different impression threads. Both of them said that Halo 3 looks worse than any of the other games (GTA4, Assassin's Creed, COD4) that they previewed in the MS press conference. Obviously, that's quite interesting as Halo 3 is the one out of that list that will be released the earliest, so you would think that it should be the best looking one at this point.

An interesting move there to counter the BR exclusivity on discs. MS is obviously hoping at this point that they can increase the digital download market to combat Blu-ray since it appears that HD-DVD has lost the disc format war. I'm curious as to how long that agreement is in place.

Interview of Square Enix exec. He's stating something similar to the Konami exec. Saying that the PS3 price needs to come down another $100. Glad to see these companies pushing for price drops. Wouldn't be shocked if Sony does exactly that in the next 6-12 months.

No, I didn't see any Dead Or Alive footage at all. The theme of the night was that all of the footage was coming from games that would be out by the end of 07. They broke that rule for one game: Resident Evil 5 which was the end of the night surprise. It looked great from the clip they showed.

I'd agree that Halo 3 looked worse than GTA 4, Assassin's Creed, and COD4. However, that is only because those 3 games all looked amazing. Halo 3 looked very good, although I've never been a fan of the series.

They didn't say how long the agreement was. However, they said it started last night and gave a list of Disney movies that would be available for immediate download.

Most of the impressions I read said it was a dissapointment from the MS group.

I didn't see any of it, but I think there are some pretty big things that came out of it.

1) While Halo 3 looked the worst of the three games, that's also the game that's going to sell a millions of copies regardless. The game could be absolute garbage and will sell 2.5 million units. Odds are, it's going to be a pretty solid game, so I don't think MS is all that worried.

2) Assassin's Creed and GTA getting rave reviews (along with GTA having 2 exclusive chapters) simply solidifies their status as A list titles. Both are going to sell and sell huge.

3) Call of Duty 4 sounds pretty good.

4) The Disney deal is huge. There have been a lot of people that have said the d/l market would destroy whoever won the BluRay/HDDVD battle. MS is testing the theory.

5) 45 million games sold on Live? That's an amazing number. That's about 4.5 games per owner of a 360 if the number is true. One game every 3 months or so for the average user.

Most of it was a bore. I watched it on G4 (I think it is called.) If I wasn't playing FM while watching, I would have turned it off.

Yikes. It appears that the Nintendo presentation isn't going much better than the MS presentation. They took 30 minutes to start showing an actual game. Only major announcement before that was something called the 'Wii Zapper', Duck Hunt 2, and that Dragon Quest was moved back to next year (was supposed to be a launch title). Hopefully the rest of the presentation improves over the first part.

With the way the Wii is selling, I don't think it really matters what they do.

The moment your company starts thinking like that is the moment it all goes wrong.

Reports indicate that that Nintendo showed several minutes of video of old people playing the Wii. That's great and all that Granny's off her duff, but the vast majority of gamers would like to see some new games so they don't have to play Wii Sports for the next 5 years (although I suppose there's always worse things to do with your time).

Something called Wii Fit that has people headbutting soccer balls, doing pushups, and dancing? The IGN person is liking it and says it'll be big, but I don't know what it looks like or anything.

Didn't look fun at all to me. I didn't buy a gaming system to exercise in front of underwhelming graphics.

Also announced:

-Wii Sports 2
-High School Musical: The Game

It appears the year of bad sequels on the Wii is upon us.

Reggie just demonstrated a balancing board accessory for the Wii.

I'm thinking that every one of the senior citizens that they showed playing the Wii would likely break a hip the moment they stepped on that thing.

I saw a couple of the running commentaries on this presentation say that they were shocked that the Nintendo presentation could be worse than the MS presentation and that 'SceneIt' for the 360 suddenly looks like a cool game. Microsoft had some games that I actually would like to play. I didn't really see anything that got me over-excited from Nintendo.

Doesn't seem like anything new was announced that I would rush out to buy. Considering I still only have Wii Sports and Zelda (stopped playing 12 hours in because I got stuck and it's really frustrating)... the only games I'd be interested in playing are the ones I already knew about.

So in the next year, I'd probably try out (and maybe buy one or two):
Super Mario Galaxy
Smash Bros.
Madden
Metroid Prime

And whenever they come out, Mario Kart and Resident Evil (the gun looks fun)... not many games there for me.

Galaxy in November, Brawl in December, Mario Kart Q1 2008, awesome news. Wii Fit doesn't look like something I'd buy but I am curious to see how it would do. Getting Galaxy this year for sure means the conference was a winner no matter how hard the rest of the presentation focused on casuals and expanding the market.

I would love a Wii Sports 2 if nobody is going to bother making a tennis game, which the system is absolutely screaming for. Top Spin 3 was just announced for Xbox360 and PS3, craziness that there won't be a Wii version IMO.

Still far too high, around $700.

They need to get it below £300 quickly.

You already know this, but it should be noted that the $700 price tag that you mention includes the 17.5% sales tax. Actual price before tax is around $580, which is pretty similar to the U.S. price before the recent price cut. The government is more to blame than any price gouging by Sony.

Ah! There we go! New version of PSP that will be smaller and lighter. Also, you can hook it to the TV and play on that as well. That may get me to buy one assuming it's the same price.

I'm playing through that right now on PS2. Great game! I just hope I can finish it before NCAA 2008 comes. I think I am right at the end of the 4th chapter out of 5.

Interesting, i really love my PSP. It's great when you are married and you don't like to watch the same TV shows than your wife but she thinks you should be sitting with her and leave the damn computer for a few hours

Yep, I do the same thing with my DS right now. Been eyeing a PSP for awhile now. Looks like the new version comes with a couple of games for $199.
