Only just found out about this. Has anybody played it, or any of the previous versions?

I played the original version, and it was pretty good. Very tactical. I've been meaning to check out the new version. The lead developer was in a FPS:BB league with a few of us FOFCers back in '97/'98. Small online sports sim world.

I can't find too much info about the game. For instance

- Does it play out over a single, or multiple, years?
- If the later, is there custom created riders that you can sign?
- What do you do - Training Schedules, Tactics...?

They are a French company, so I'm sure things are lost in translation.

not even bothering to complete the install and start it up...StarForce is just not attractive.

And from the forum it looks like the game won't be playable until the final patch in sept.

VMWare/MS Virtual Server is your friend.

I didn't play it in a couple of years now, but it should be a very good game guys. I played the first 5 versions, and it improved every year. It has a nice career mode, and a decent engine. Playing the stages was a lot of fun, if I remember correctly. Basically, you have to balance the pace of your riders during the course of the race, and you can sprint/escape/etc... You can program your season, choosing which races you want to take part in, and setting your goals. There's also a very active mod community: they create past years' scenarios, and literally thousands of jerseys. If you've never tried it, do it.

I tried it a few years ago. I've got Cycling Manager 2 & 3 (the previous name of the game). Then I found out it had Starforce and I uninstalled it and scrubbed. It was pretty interesting, as I recall. You could sign riders, buy new bikes, hire scouts, etc. The community put together a pretty nice database too.

The demo will probably just be a stage of the Tour de France (that's what they've done in years past). You should get a pretty good idea of how the races work, but you won't get to experience the "manager" side of the game at all.

I've been tempted to buy Pro Cycling Manager from GoGamer. They've got it in their bargain bin for $7.90. It's the version from a couple years ago, but it's the only version they've got. My better judgement keeps telling me no though (I'm assuming it still comes with Starforce). If anyone else is interested:

There's an abandonware version of this game on 'The Underdogs' website. I've played that version and it's pretty involved, but fun if you're even a general cycling fan.

It's a great and very deep game... but also full of bugs every year. If i'm not mistaken, in the last version release a month ago, your players tire as much climbing a mountain than going down. They release patches from time to time and it should be a good game once fixed, too bad they aways seem to rush it and to have some incedible bugs, else it could be a great game f you are into cycling.

Does anyone over here know how much improved are the newer versions compared to the first edition? The first edition was pretty deep already and with a 2007 teams update to the 20 Pro Tour teams, the things missing for me are the ability to 'quick sim' stages and for career management. Are these implented well enough in the most recent version(s)? (Yeah, there are fansites out here, but most are loaded with critic-less fans and are people who are not familiar with the career management elements that us FOF players are used to.)

I think their sales to the grand public are tied to the start of Le Tour de France. They have to release it mid June, early July to boost their sales. And the true fans of the sport/game won't mind waiting a bit to get the patched stuff out there, would they? While they can get their money through the bandwagon/Tour-only people.
