NCAA 08: Staying on Top
I thought some people like to read (and see) my quest to keep USC on top of the world in College Football. This will be a re-telling of my games with videos (assuming Brightcove cooperates well) which will focus on the games mostly with brief recruiting bits as well.
Settings: 8 minute quarters in which I'll super sim a series or two to boost the number of plays to realistic settings. All Penalties maxed except clipping at default. Default Sliders play a very defensive oriented game in my opinion, these are focused on opening it up a bit and also lowering the number of interceptions. All sliders are the same for the CPU and Human: QB Accuracy: 50 Pass Blocking: 60 (too many sacks without this bump, but dominant pass rushers still usually get 1-3 a game.) WR Catching: 45 (makes guys who get nailed drop it a bit more.) RB Ability: 50 Run Blocking: 60 (good offensive lines open up the holes more on both sides.) Defensive Awareness: 30 (opens up the game a bit and is important to pass offenses particularly with knockdowns at 100.) Knockdowns: 100 (lowers interceptions) Interceptions: 0 Break Block: 40 (gives a bit more open feeling to the offenses - on the downside it occasionally causes the appearance of suction blocking.) Tackling: 40 (1 on 1 tacklers miss a bit more) FG Power: 25 (before I did this, my relatively poor USC kicker was hitting 50 yarders - now his max range is about 45.) FG Accuracy: 25 Punt Power: 25 (too many booming punts without this) Punt Accuracy: 25 Kickoff Power: 25 (only the stronger kickers kick it into the endzone.)

Our first game starts out shaky as Booty throws an early pick, but our running game helps settle him down. Our O-Line has a big advantage on Idaho and it opens up our running game. We gradually build a 14-3 lead, but Booty passes to Hazelton midway into the 2nd is when we really pull away:
We coasted to an easy 42-3 win as our defense was able to start teeing off on the QB. We had 10 sacks against the hopeless Idaho QB. We had 421 yards of total offense. They had 305. Booty was 12 of 21 for 199 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT. Sanchez was 1 of 5 in relief for 19 yards. Chauncey Washington had 16 carries for 66 yards. Stafon Johnson had 13 carries for 146 yards and 3 TD's. Vidal led the team with 3 catches for 92 yards and a TD. Jeff Byers had 2 pancakes. Rachal had 1. Rey Maualuga led the team with 10 tackles, 4 for a loss, and 3 sacks. Idaho completed 19 of 31 passes for 252 yards with 1 interception. They ran it 34 times for 43 yards as our linebackers dominated the running game. After the game, T Andre Andrews from Los Angeles committed on the spot! He is ranked 14th in the country. He is a 5 star recruit who is 6'1 319 pounds. His strength is pass blockig. |

The 1st quarter is a defensive battle and it is only fitting the defense scores first. Late in the 1st, Cushing blitzes the QB and hits him as he is throwing which helps result in a poor throw. Terrell Thomas picks it off and returns it 39 yards for a TD:
On the last play of the 1st quarter, Stafon is injured for the game. At least that is our position of greatest depth. Lucky fumbles on the 1st play of their next drive and we get a short field as a result. A few plays later Booty finds Fred Davis in the endzone for the 4 yard TD pass. 14-0. Their next drive, Keller throws a deep ball that sails over his man and is picked off by Taylor Mays. He returns it to midfield. However, we fail to capitalize and his 1st play of the next drive, Keller hits his TE for an 81 yard TD!! 14-7. Terrell Thomas with great blocking returns the kickoff 98 yards for a TD. 21-7. Despite their top CB being injured, the rest of the 1st half is a defensive battle. Our kicker nails a 41 yarder with a minute left (barely over the bar) to make it 24-7. Oops. We played a passive defense and Kellar marched them right down the field. Marlon Lucky ha a sweet 11 yard run as the half was ending to make it 24-14: They fumble the 2nd half kickoff. Pinkard recovers!! Next play, Turner with a spectacular catch on the deep ball! He used all 6'5" of his height: Cary Harris ends their very good drive with a pick which he returns 86 yards including a stiff arm of Kellar along the way. 38-14 as we are cruising now. Kellar leads them down the field and hits Swift in the endzone to make it 38-22 after Lucky runs it in for the 2 point conversion. A balanced drive ends with a 17 yard TD pass to Hazelton. 45-22 as we enter the 4th. Keller responds with a nice drive that ends in a TD pass. 45-28 as they failed the 2 point conversion. With 3 minutes to go, we recover the onside kick. With 40 seconds to go, our kicker hits the upright on a 32 yard FG attempt. Keller's desperation pass as time is running out is picked off by Terrell Thomas who takes it to the house. 52-28 as time is expiring. Final Key Stats: Booty was 14 of 22 for 202 yards with 3 TD's 0 INT's. He was sacked twice. Keller was 29 of 40 for 392 yards with 3 TD's 4 INT's. He was sacked 3 times. Lucky had 19 carries for 93 yards and a TD. Chauncey had 20 carries for 74 yards for us. Stafon had 6 carries for 15 yards. Vidal Hazelton had 5 catches for 129 yards and a TD. Nate Swift had 7 catches for 116 yards and a TD for Nebraska. Terrell Thomas had 8 tackles and 2 interceptions. Rey Maualga had 8 tackles. |

We host a Washington State squad that has a weak defense that we should be able to score against easily. We also are hosting about 6 recruits this week.

3rd play of the game, Stafon runs up the middle, sheds a tackle, bounces it to the outside, jukes a guy out of his jock, then gets to the outside to take it 48 yards down the sideline for a TD. 7-0.
An offsides against Sedrick Ellis on a FG attempt gives them a 1st and the next play they complete a 28 yard pass for a TD. 7-7. Coleman drops a wide open pass on 3rd down and we have to punt. Sedrick Ellis crushes their QB Alex Brink and knocks him out for a series. Tardy, their HB, catches us with a counter that works perfectly against our blitz and he has a 41 yard TD run! 14-7. Booty throws a pick deep in their half and they march down the field ending with a 21 yard TD pass that took perfect advantage of our blitz. Down 20-7 as they miss the XP. 6 minutes to go in the half. Chauncey Washington breaks some tackles and returns the kickoff for a TD!!! 20-14: Our defense forces the punt and Holland has a good punt return to get to the 44. A defensive pass interference call bails us out of 3rd and 19 (after Booty was sacked the previous play.) On 4th and 2, Ausberry drops a wide open pass. We turn it over on their 37. Lawrence Jackson with a sack to force the punt. We have it back with 1:18 to go. We fail to score and punt. With 21 seconds left, Rey intercepts a short pass to the TE. He returns it 3 yards to their 37. 2 plays later we get to the 22 with 2 seconds left. Our kicker nails the FG. 20-17. We open up the 3rd quarter with a balanced drive that ends with a 17 yard pass to Turner for a TD! 24-20. Our next drive we hit the 42 yard FG to make it 27-20. Stafon injures his arm and will have to miss the rest of the game. Our next drive, we miss the 35 yard FG attempt. A 32 yard FG makes it 30-20, we lead as the 3rd quarter comes to an end. Taylor Mays with a pick that he returns to their 1. Chauncey runs it in the next play. 37-20. Rey Rey DRILLS their HB as he is catching the screen and Taylor Mays picks it up and returns it the distance. 44-20: Their next drive they go for it on 4th and 1 on their 40 and we stuff the back! We miss a 31 yard FG attempt. 2:36 left in the game, 44-20 lead. 44-20 win. Hopefully, the visiting recruits were impressed with everything we did with them this week and during the game. Key Stats: Booty was 16 of 24 for 167 yards with a TD and an INT. He was sacked 5 times. Stafon had 21 carries for 143 yards and a TD. Chauncey had 16 carries for 56 yards and a TD. Patrick Turner had 4 catches for 52 yards and a TD. Jeff Byers had 3 pancakes. Keith Rivers had 12 tackles, 3 for a loss. Lawrence Jackson had 3 tackles including 2 sacks. Alex Brink was on a hot streak coming into the game (something I didn't know was in the game) and he was 13 of 23 for 176 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT. Dwight Tardy also was on a hotstreak and he had 21 carries for 87 yards and a TD. Brandon Gibson had 5 catches for 78 yards and a TD. Greg Trent, MLB, had 15 tackles, 2 for a loss, and 1 sack for Washington State. |

In other news around College Football from the past week and this week:
Tennessee won at Florida 35-31 to give them their first loss. Tennessee is 3-0. Alabama is 3-0 as they beat Arkansas 28-24 Arkansas drops to 1-1. Michigan crushed ND 34-17 to rise to 3-0. In week 4, Michigan barely edged Penn State 25-24. Georgia upset Alabama 19-17. Both teams are now 3-1. Chauncey Washington and Taylor Mays both won Pac 10 Players of the Week. I'm focusing most of my energies on my top 10 or 12 guys on my board and so far their recruitment is going very well. |

We are at Washington today and are heavily favored:
Our first drive ends with a 26 yard TD pass to Hazelton in which he broke a tackle and streaked down the sideline after a short catch. Washington's first play is a pass back to the WR who throws it downfield to another WR for a completion! Rey Rey picks off the next pass! Their next drive ends with a 42 yard FG attempt that is wide left. Stafon with a 58 yard TD run to quickly make it 14-0 early in the 2nd, but Washington responds with a good drive that ends with a 19 yard TD pass. 14-7. Our next drive ends with a 1 yard TD run by Stafon. 21-7. Their QB has struggled all year and Ellison gets a pick on their next drive. Booty leads a nice drive which ends with a 1 yard TD run by Stafon. 28-7. Darn. LG Drew Radovich suffers a torn Triceps and he is done for most of the year if not all of it. Patrick Turner also suffers a strained triceps in the 2nd quarter and is done for this game. We end the half with a 30 yard FG. 31-7. Early in the 3rd, their QB throws his 3rd pick of the game and 10th of the year. 38-7 as Cary returns it for a 21 yard TD. Late in the 3rd, Washington's QB Bonnell throws a TD pass. 38-14. Booty throws his 3rd pick and 2nd of the quarter as they all out blitz. A short FG makes it 38-17 late in the 3rd. Booty is much better on his next drive as he hits Vidal in stride on a corner route for a 14 yard TD. 45-17. We win 45-17 as no one scored most of the 4th. Key Stats: Booty was 17 of 23 for 202 yards with 2 TD's 3 INT's. That will hurt his Heisman chances. Stafon had 19 carries for 141 yards and 3 TD's. Chauncey had 12 carries for 60 yards. Vidal had 4 catches for 49 yards and 2 TD's. Rey Maualuga had 17 tackles, 3 for a loss, and 1 interception! Carl Bonnell was 16 of 32 for 182 yards with 2 TD's 4 INT's. Louis Rankin had 20 carries for 48 yards. |

UCLA suffered their first loss of the year to a 5-0 Oregon State team, 31-16.
5-0 Oklahoma will face 4-1 Texas this week. Our next game is hosting a 1-3 Stanford team that should be easy to beat. We'll have another group of highly touted recruits at this game. |

Our first drive ended with a Stafon TD run.
Ellison with an interception to end their first drive. Their drive was ended with a Rey interception which he returned 50 yards for a TD. 14-0. Taylor Mays dislocated his shoulder and will miss most of the rest of this game. Our kicker hits the upright from 36 yards out to keep it 14-0 early in the 2nd. Midway through the 2nd, they cap a drive with a 14 yard TD pass. 14-7. Our next drive, Booty throws a pick on an out pattern that is returned for a TD! 14-14. A 43 yard FG as time is expiring makes it 17-14, we lead. A great scramble on 3rd and 15 by Booty for a 1st: A few plays later he runs it in from 5 yards out! 24-14. With the wind aiding him (9 mph), our kicker hits a 49 yard FG that barely gets over the bar. 27-14. End of 3. Ellison with his 2nd pick of the day and a few plays later, Booty finds Vidal in the endzone with a 15 yard pass. 34-14. Our next drive, Patrick Turner has 2 big catches including a 5 yard TD on a fade! 41-14. We win the game, 41-14. Key Stats: Booty was 18 of 26 for 233 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT. Feeling sick today, so I thought I'd get in a game or two before going back to bed.
I've adjusted the kicking sliders down to 20 for both sides, and QB accuracy down to 45 for both sides. This next game is at a very good ND team. |

A balanced drive ends with a 14 yard TD pass to Patrick Turner! 7-0.
They are starting Jimmy Clausen! We should eat up the young QB. We force a 3 and out. Stafon fumbles when juking in traffic and they recover. On our 45, we stop them when they go for it on 4th and 2! Cary Harris with a spectacular interception on a deep ball late in the 1st quarter. He returns it to their 25. Hazelton is drilled by their safety and he fumbles it on their 7. They recover. Cary Harris with his 2nd pick of Clausen on the next play and he returns it for a TD. 14-0. This is the first freshman QB we've faced all year. They get their running game going and end a drive with a 6 yard TD run. 14-7. We respond with a 7 play 72 yard drive including a 23 yard TD pass to Vidal. 21-7. Booty has a pass picked off as I try to throw it while scrambling. A few plays later Taylor Mays picks off Clausen on their 18 yard line. Booty to Stafon for a TD! 28-7. On our next drive, Stafon breaks out of a tackle and has a 51 yard TD run on a sweep. 35-7. Late in the 2nd quarter, Booty breaks his thumb on his throwing hand. He'll miss 2-3 weeks. Terrell Thomas and Pinkard go for the pick on a deep ball, but both miss it and Clausen connects on a 62 yard TD. 35-14 early in the 3rd. Time for Sanchez to respond. Chauncey Washington with a 2 yard TD run to make it 42-14 with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd. Thomas with a diving pick on a slant route. A drive that was mostly running plays ends with a 11 yard TD pass from Sanchez to Holland. 49-14. Our next drive ends with another TD pass from Sanchez to Holland! 56-14. 6 minutes to go in the 4th. This week, we play a struggling Oregon team that is dangerous because of their mobile QB, Dennis Dixon. They have a talented offense surrounding him, but they have been hit by injuries this year at various times. They are currently 3-4. It's cold and rainy today with heavy rain and 45 degree temperature at kickoff. This is our first time playing in the rain all year.
Our first drive ends with a 3 yard TD pass from Sanchez to Holland. 7-0. Very solid first drive from Oregon ends when their receiver drops a 3rd down pass and we stop the fake punt run on 4th down. A stupid throw by Sanchez deep into double coverage results in a pick. Dixon's first throw sails over his receiver's head into Cary Harris's hands! A 38 yard FG makes it 10-0, we lead. Sanchez with some great passes on our next drive including a 26 yard TD pass to Patrick Turner on a deep corner. 17-0. Dixon with some nice runs and passes to get them inside the 10, but we stop them there and they miss a 25 yard FG. Their next drive is finished with a 1 yard TD run. 17-7. As the half is almost over, we get their CB to bite on a play action and Sanchez hits Vidal in stride. He takes it all the way, 59 yards! 24-7. Early in the 3rd, LG Matt Spanos injures his shoulder and will miss a few weeks. We are now in trouble with depth at G. Late in the 3rd, a 30 yard FG makes it 27-7. Terrell Thomas picks off an out pass and returns it 45 yards for a TD. 34-7. At the end of the 3rd, Sanchez overthrows Fred Davis and their S picks it off. Oregon takes advantage and gets another rushing TD. 34-14. Stafon with a 6 yard TD run to end a time eating drive. 41-14. 41-14 win as we contained the explosive Oregon offense which was missing their top WR due to injury. Key Stats: Sanchez was 14 of 20 for 243 yards with 3 TD's 2 INT's. Stafon had 25 carries for 126 yards and a TD. Vidal had 4 catches for 111 yards and a TD. Rey Maualuga had 14 tackles, 4 for a loss, and 1 sack. Dixon was 19 of 36 for 252 yards with 2 INT's. Jeremiah Johnson had 25 carries for 80 yards and 2 TD's. We got another recruit to commit early!!! Derrick Houston is a 6'3 206 pound 5 star QB from Little Rock, AR. He is the 13th ranked recruit overall and 2nd among QB's! His strengths are a very powerful arm with good accuracy, good awareness in the pocket and decent mobility. He runs in the 4.6 range in the 40. Tim Tebow had a great game against Georgia and Florida cruised 56-35. Tennessee beat South Carolina 25-21 to remain undefeated. We now host an 8-0 Oregon State team in what could be the toughest hurdle left on our schedule. Oregon Stte's offense is 23rd in the nation and well balanced. Their defense is 3rd. Our offnese is 45th statistically. Our defense is 33rd. Cushing is out for this game.

Late in the 1st quarter, Lawrence Jackson CRUSHES their star HB and knocks him out of the game. He was their Heisman candidate and has been a big part of their success this year.
They hit a 34 yard FG late in the 1st to take a 3-0 lead. Sanchez threw a pick on our own good scoring opportunity. Sanchez throws a wild pass over Stafon's head and it is picked off by their linebacker. Cary Harris intercepts it on the 1 to stop them from scoring. Early in the 2nd, a 52 yard FG makes it 6-0, Oregon State. A fumble ends our next drive, and Oregon State capitalizes with another FG. This time from 30 yards out. 9-0. They block a punt! They get it on our 2. A few plays later they make it 16-0 with a TD run. Vidal fumbles the ball and their CB recovers and runs it back 78 yards for a TD!! 23-0. ![]() Another fumble by Vidal ends our next drive. Ouch. We go into the half, down 23-0. Cary Harris intercepts a deep ball to start the half. A few plays later Sanchez hits Holland in the back corner of the endzone for a 21 yard TD. 23-6 as we get stopped on the 2 point conversion. Sheesh. On our next drive, Fred Davis fumbles and they recover it and run it in for a TD! YES!! It is reversed. Sanchez throws another pick that is returned for a TD and we are in big trouble. Down 30-6. Sanchez to Vidal for a 19 yard TD. Chauncey runs it in for the 2. 30-14 just as the 3rd ends. 2 drives later, Sanchez hits Turner on a slant in which he breaks two tackles and goes 86 yards for a TD!!! 30-20 as we fail to convert the 2. They fumble the kickoff! We recover. Next play Sanchez to Fred Davis for a 20 yard TD!!! 30-27. 3 force a 3 and out! They stop us at the 8, but we kick the FG to tie it up. 30-30 with 3:53 to go. We stop them at midfield and force the punt. They force a 3 and out as they stop Stafon on 3rd and 1. We punt. Cary Harris with a pick on the out! That is his 3rd of the day. Stafon breaks two tackles for a 29 yard run: (I tried to put a highlight here, but EA servers aren't displaying the video right now for some reason. I'll edit this if I can get it show later.) 9 seconds left, we are on the 6 and we have a timeout. I run a toss which they stop on the 2. Our kicker drills the short FG!!! 33-30 win! The unbeaten streak at the Coliseum continues. Key Stats: Sanchez: 19 of 37 for 352 yards with 4 TD's 3 INT's. Stafon: 36 carries for 175 yards. Turner: 4 catches for 136 yards and a TD. Lawrence Jackson (I've never seen these types of numbers from a DE in NCAA before): 11 tackles, 5 for a loss, 2 sacks. Cary Harris 3 picks. Ryan Gunderson: 11 of 22 for 140 yards with 4 picks. Clinton Polk: 32 carries for 108 yards and a TD. Gabe Miller: 6 catches for 59 yards. In other news, Oklahoma lost to Texas A&M 43-28 to end their title hopes. Cary Harris now leads the nation in interceptions, but he isn't ridiculously ahead of others. In fact, there are 9 players with 7 while he has 8. Ellison and Thomas are both in the top 25 with 5 interceptions each. Our next game is at Cal which is the toughest game remaining on the schedule, but Cal is struggling this year and is 5-3. |

A few minor slider adjustments:
Qtr length increased to 9 so that I don't have to supersim as much to get a good number of plays. For both sides: Defensive Awareness knocked down 1 more tick to 25. Knockdowns knocked down 1 tick to 95. Break Block increased 1 tick to 45. Tackling increased 1 tick to 45. Now onto the game at a dangerous but struggling 5-4 Cal team.

After several defensive stops on both sides, Cal strikes first with a Longshore to DeSean Jackson TD (his 10th of the year.) 7-. Cal put together a 8 play 60 yard drive, mostly on passes.
Hazelton catches a curl, gets drilled by the safety and fumbles it. Cal recovers. During the 4 minutes of supersim, each QB throws a pick. We kick a FG to make it 7-3. With 9 seconds left on their 4, I call a trips play HB toss to the right. Good blocking by the receivers and a broken tackle by Chauncey leads to a TD!!! 10-7. Going into halftime, it's been a defensive battle which is somewhat surprising. Late in the half, Stafon Johnson broke his tailbone. He's out for the remainder of the regular season. Longshore hits me on a blitz and has a 39 yard TD pass to Jordan. 14-10. A PA pass for a 5 yard TD to our FB, Coleman makes it 17-14 as we had a very balanced drive for 67 yards over 11 plays. We are up 17-14 at the end of 3, but Cal is driving. Cal runs it in to make it 21-17. We respond by moving it down the field, ending in a Chauncey TD run from the 1. 24-21. We block a punt to get great field position, but they stuff us. FG makes it 27-21. Longshore squeezes it between two of my defenders to hit DeSean for a 32 yard gain. We stop them on 4th and 5 on our 19 with 3 minutes to go!!!! Chauncey fumbles it! They recover! ![]() Longshore with a PA pass to DeSean for 21 yards to get inside the 5. Longshore hits Stevens for a PA TD on the next play. 28-27. 2 minutes to go. Booty leads a perfect 2 minute drive with a 21 yard pass to Turner, a 14 yard pass to Davis, a 8 yard pass to Turner, a 12 yard pass to Coleman, a 10 yard pass to Vidal, a 4 yard run by Chauncey and a 8 yard TD pass to Chauncey!! We fail to convert the 2. 33-28. 20 seconds left, they are on our 28. 2 incompletions followed by a pass to the HB for 12 leads to a Hail Mary at the end of the game.. we knock it down!!! 33-28 win! Key Stats: Booty 20 of 34 for 256 yards with 2 TDs 1 INT (thrown by Supersim) Chauncey: 21 carries for 83 yards and 2 TD's. 1 fumble. Stafon: 12 carries for 57 yards before being hurt. Vidal had 7 catches for 93 yards. Rey Rey had 12 tackles, 3 for a loss. Nate Longshore 25 of 41 for 284 yards with 3 TD's 1 INT (also thrown by Supersim.) Justin Forsett: 30 carries for 115 yards and a TD. DeSean Jackson 7 catches for 87 yards and a TD. |

A bit of a hit on the recruiting front as we lost the top FB in the nation to his hometown Ohio State Buckeyes. We also lost the top G as he stayed in state to play for Iowa.
We did get a 5 star DE to sign in Blake Holland who is from CA. The following week (after a bye) we lose out on the #1 T in the state who stayed close to SF by signing with Stanford! We also lose out on the top QB in the nation who stayed in Louisiana and chose LSU. We tried to steal a great WR from Florida, but he signed with his hometown Gators. We lost a great MLB who stayed in Texas and signed with the Longhorns. The top S from North Carolina chose Penn State over us. The #1 cornerback in the nation who I was really counting on, signed with LSU. He was from Ohio. Now, we play at a very good 7-3 ASU team. |

They force a 3 and out and then march down the field ending in a 3 yard TD run. 7-0, ASU.
Our next drive ends with a 36 yard FG. 7-3. Late in the 1st, a PA 3 yard TD pass out of the goalline formation to our backup TE is good for a TD. 10-7. Rey Rey picks off a slant! We have it on their 37 as the 1st ends. A 27 yard FG makes it 13-7 early in the 2nd half. Their next drive ends with a Carpenter TD pass. 14-13. Chauney breaks one for a 40 yard TD run!! 20-14. As the half is expiring, they hit a 28 yarder to make it 20-17. We go for it on 4th and goal from the 1/2 yard line and make it with a Chauncey TD behind Sam Baker. 27-17. Cary Harris jumps a slant, picks it off, and returns it 38 yards for a TD. 34-17. During the supersim early in the 4th, we get our 3rd pick of the day. 3 plays later, Coleman runs it in. 41-17. During Supersim, Carpenter plays perfect on the next drive ending in a 4 yard TD pass to #18. 41-25 as they complete the 2 pt conversion. Chauncey ends a lengthy time consuming drive with a 2 yard TD. 48-25. We win, 48-25. Key Stats: Booty: 20 of 29 for 278 yards and a TD. Chauncey: 33 carries for 175 yards and 3 TD's. Moody had 8 carries for 9 yards. Chauncey: 6 catches for 90 yards (including a 30 yard screen) Rey Rey led the team with 9 tackles and a pick. Ellison and Cary Harris had the other picks. Carpenter 19 of 26 for 241 yards with 2 TD's 3 INT's. One of the picks was during supersim. Ryan Torian had 22 carries for 74 yards and a TD. Rodney Glass: 7 catches for 98 yards and 2 TD's. FS Josh Barrett had 20 tackles! |

After the game, we get the top HB in the nation from Ohio to sign with us! Michael Edwards is a 5'11 219 pound back who doesn't have tremendous speed, but he does have great hands, acceleration, and agility. He is a 5 star recruit who was 5th in the nation overall and 1st among HB's. We'll continue our glut at the position.
NO!!!! NO!! We lose out on the top CB in the state who chooses UCLA over us, despite me going after him hard ![]() We also lose out on a 4 star FS from Arizona who chooses LSU. At least, one of the best CB's in the country from Florida still has us #1 on his list. Hopefully, we don't lose him. He is #1 on my board now and we'll try to seal the deal today. In other news: Undefeated Boise State beat previously undefeated Hawaii, 31-21. 9-2 Rutgers will face 10-1 Louisville in a big game. Florida beat FSU 24-21 to raise their record to 10-2. Top 5 in the BCS: 1. USC 11-0 2. Tennessee 12-0 3. Texas 10-2 4. Boise State 12-0 5. Oklahoma 11-1 Despite the loss, Colt Brennan is being touted as the favorite for the Heisman with another 300 yard 3 TD game. Rey Rey is considered a lock to win the Bednarik this year. Lawrence Jackson is one of the final 3 for the Lombardi. All that stands between us and the National Championship game is a home game against an 8-3 Bruin Squad. I'll have quite a few recruits at that game. I'll play that tomorrow. |

A few more minor slider tweaks: QB Accuracy and WR catching down 1 notch to 40. Knockdowns down to 90. That should be it for tweaks for a while.
Now onto the UCLA game! We start off with a good kick return. Chauncey is hurt on the 1st play of the game. On the 3rd play of the game, Emmanuel Moody catches a screen and has perfect blocking! He goes 52 yards for a TD!!! 7-0. Here is the highlight (I love how a Bruin trips over a teammate towards the end): Lawrence Jackson with a sack on 2nd down that helps force a 3 and out. Chauncey Washington comes back from his injury and has a brilliant run on 3rd and inches for a 37 yard TD run! 14-0. Here is the highlight: Rey Rey with a nasty sack on 3rd down to force another 3 and out! Our 3rd drive, our backup TE drops a TD pass. Booty is sacked on the next play and we settle for a 29 yard FG. 17-0! Lawrence Jackson with his 2nd sack of the day. He is abusing their RT! We force another 3 and out. Time for some revenge ![]() Booty gets greedy with a deep ball to Turner that hangs and the safety picks it off. Most of the 2nd quarter is a defensive battle but with 3 minutes to go, we end it with a Booty to Chauney TD pass for 10 yards. 24-0. UCLA responds with a good drive which ends with a QB sneak for a TD. 24-8. Poor clock management by me leads to us running out the clock with the ball on their 1. 24-8 at the half. Late in the 3rd, we finally score again on a Chauncey 4 yard TD run. 31-8. Holland just barely misses returning a fumble all the way as he gets slowed down by the last man and tackled on the 15. Still, it was a nice 55 yard punt return. We have to settle for a FG on this drive. 34-8. Our next drive, Chauncey ends with a 4 yard TD run! 41-8. Our 2nd team defense stops their 1st team offense! We get it on downs with a minute to go. 41-8 win! We are going to the National Championship Game!!! Key Stats: Booty was 20 of 31 for 278 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT. Sanchez was 1 of 3 for 35 yards. Chauncey had 42 carries for 187 yards and 3 TD's. Fred Davis, the TE, had 7 catches for 117 yards. Rey Rey led the team with 6 tackles, 4 for a loss, and 1 sack. Lawrence Jackson had 5 tackles, 2 sacks. Patrick Cowan was 13 of 24 for 99 yards. 0 TD's 0 INT's. Chris Markey had 32 carries for 105 yards. |

Ray Rice had 115 yards and a TD, but Cal edged out Rutgers 28-25.
Arkansas won 38-28 behind a 135 yard day from McFadden. Oklahoma got almost 400 yards from Halzle and beat Georgia 36-32 who had terrible play from Stafford but a 140 yard day on the ground from Thomas Brown. Florida State played both QB's and they both played well in a 31-24 win over West Virginia. Wisconsin edged out Florida 32-29. Purdue beat Boise State 42-35 in a back and forth game. Now onto our rematch against Texas in the National Championship! Texas has a very dangerous offense, but their defense is young and not as talented as ours. |

Wow. The Superdome looks amazing!
They run it very well for the first 7 plays, but on their 3rd pass, Terrell Thomas jumps the route and gets us a pick. Booty goes deep against an all out blitz, but he doesn't get enough air under it and they pick it off. After forcing a 3 and out, we put together a balanced drive that ends with a 3 yard TD run by Chauncey! 7-0. Crap. Late in the 1st, Rey Rey drilled the QB but suffered a severe concussion. His game is over. They hit a FG the next play to make it 7-3. A few passes mixed in with a few good runs and we are inside the 10. Next play Chauncey runs a perfect sweep for a 10 yard TD! 14-3. They respond right away with a 8 play 72 yard drive ending in a 2 yard TD run by Charles. 14-10. They get it right back with a 3 and out against us. On 4th and goal from the 2, they go for it... we stop them! Patrick Turner suffers a hip pointer on the 2nd play of this drive and he is done for the day ![]() We put together a great 13 play 94 yard drive but it is stopped just outside of the 5. The short FG makes it 17-10 with 1:20 left in the half. They put together a brilliant 2 minute drive to get inside the 30 with 8 seconds left, but their FG misses the long attempt wide right! We are up 17-10 at the half. Early in the 2nd half, Booty is hit as he is throwing and it ends up a lame duck that their S intercepts. We stuff them on 4th and 1 on our 32! Their defense forces a 3 and out. Their kicker nails a 53 yard FG on their next drive. 17-13. Coleman gets surrounded and fumbles it on our next drive, but Washington recovers! A good 9 play 45 yard drives stalls at their 16. Our kicker makes it 20-13 with a 33 yard FG. Texas responds with a 9 play 63 yard drive that ends with a 3 yard TD run by Charles. 20-20. End of 3: 20-20. WOOT! Our kicker nails a 48 yarder! 23-20. We force a 3 and out. They stop us on the 17 as Vidal drops a 3rd down pass. The 34 yard FG makes it 26-20! We force another 3 and out! They force a quick punt. 5 minutes to go and they have it on their 15. Lawrence Jackson with a nice sack on 1st down! On 3rd and 10, McCoy finds one of his receivers for a 12 yard completion. The next play Ellison drills their receiver across the middle and he fumbles! Cary Harris recovers! Washington picks up 2 yards on 4th and 1 on their 30!! We get stopped on their 21, but David hits his 5th FG of the day! 29-20! 1:45 to go. Backup MLB Chris Galippo picks it off for us! That should be all she wrote. Chauncey runs it for 2 1sts and that ends it! 29-20 win!!! We win the National Championship! Key Game Stats: Booty was 21 of 31 for 313 yards with 2 INT's. Chauncey had 33 carries for 100 yards and 2 TD's. Vidal had 4 catches for 69 yards. Taylor Mays had 12 tackles Chris Galippo had 9 tackles, 2 for a loss, and an INT. If Rey Rey leaves early, he will be the heir to the MLB job. Lawrence Jackson had 7 tackles and 2 sacks. David Buehler made 5 of 5 FG's and 2 of 2 XP's. He was the MVP of the game! Colt McCoy finished with 24 of 39 for 317 yards with 2 INT's. Jamaal Charles carried it 24 times for 102 yards and 2 TD's. Jordan Shipley had 5 catches for 73 yards. |

Now onto the offseason:
Cary Harris, Fili Moala, Rey Maualuga, and Kevin Ellison all decide to leave early for the draft. Unlike previous versions, it doesn't show me how much they are leaning towards staying or going. I let them all go without trying to persuade them. Emmanuel Moody wants to transfer to UNLV, I don't try to convince him to stay either. It will be a great battle between Stafon, Joe McKnight, and our new #1 HB recruit for the starting job. Lots of talent graduating: Booty, Sam Baker, backup TE Thompson, HB Desmond Reed, Terrell Thomas, Sedrick Ellis, Chris Barrett, Chauncey Washington, Herschel Dennis, Lawrence Jackson, Alex Morrow, Drew Radovich, Matt Spanos, Thomas Williams, Keith Rivers, Alatini Malu, Fred Davis. Lots of starters in that group and all of our impact players are gone. No one has requested to transfer here this year. Time to hit the recruiting trail! We miss out on several G's that I wanted in the first week, but we do get 2 DE's, a CB, a TE, a DT, an OLB, and an athlete that could play a variety of positions in the 1st week. We also lost a good WR to Boise State! We lost a good DT who stayed in Wisconsin to play for Wisconsin. Jason Clark is the athlete. He is 6'3 198 from Campbell, Ca. He is a 4 star athlete ranked 240th overall. He was a QB in highschool, but I'm not sure where we'll use him yet. He has a strong arm and good but not great mobility. Our DT is Thomas Harris from King of Prussia, PA He is 6'3 280. He is a 4 star player who is ranked 143rd overall. He should be a solid tackler right away. He is very strong. Jamaal Miller is a OLB who is 6'1 225. He has superior speed. He is a 4 star who is ranked 110th overall. He is from Affton, MO. Terrance Franklin is a 4 star TE from Placentia, CA. He is 6'3 250. He has good speed for his size and decent hands. He is a work in progress as far as blocking. He is ranked 51st overall. Damien Swain is a 4 star DE we stole from Texas. He is from Bridge City, Tx. He is ranked 44th overall. He is a bit light at 6'4 236 but he has good speed and awareness. Bryan Richardson is the 3rd DE to commit to us this year, but he is the best. He is from Bryan, TX. He is 6'3 240 and is a 5 star athlete. He was ranked 22nd overall. He has great strength for his size and is a good tackler. Kyle Newton is a 6'1 180 pound CB from Frostproof, FL. He is a 4 star athlete who was ranked 65th overall. He has top flight speed and will be a likely starter next year or at least a NB. He's better at zone coverage. In our 2nd week of recruiting: We lose out on a ton of recruits who we went after late. However, we get 2 new signees: Ed Keyes is an OLB from Guymon Oklahoma. He is a 4 star recruit who is ranked 238 overall. He is 6'2 232. He is fast and is a sure tackler. We also get Dusty Hawthorne, a 4 star HB from Woodland, CA. He is 5'11 205. He is a very fast player with tremendous acceleration and agility. In week 3: We lose out on 4 more guys we came to late, but we get 2 that we went after late. Michael McMahan is a 4 star athlete ranked 133 overall who is 6'4 207. He could play either WR or CB for us. John Coley is a 6'0 200 pound 3 star athlete ranked 527 overall. He is from Belton, Tx. He was a QB in HS but will probably play somewhere on the defense for us. In week 4: A FB that we went after late decided to go ahead and sign with Bowling Green. In week 5, we get 3 more recruits: Anthony Schroeder is very much a need signing. We needed another G on the roster. He is 6'3 285 and is a 3 star athlete who is ranked 630th overall. He is from Turlock, CA. His best areas are run blocking and strength. We needed backup MLB and 2 chose to sign at the same time. Matt Moore is a 6'3 215 pound MLb from Flower Mound, TX. He is a surprisingly good tackler for his size. However, I doubt he will ever see the field due to other weaknesses. A likely redshirt this year. Kyle Thomas is from Vidalia, GA. He is 6'0 240 and is a 3 star MLB. He was ranked 661 overall. He has very good speed for his size and is highly intelligent. He'll probably play some this year. That wraps up the class. We never got a FB, which we needed. However, one of the athletes will probably slide into that role. We also missed out on a 2nd DT which we needed, but one of the DE's might slide into that position. Otherwise, I'm happy with this class. We are the #1 recruiting class with 5 5-star players, 9 4-star players, and 4 3-star players. 2. Texas 2 5-star, 10-4 stars, 9 3-stars, and 2 2-stars. 3. Florida State: 2, 9, 9, 4, and 1. 4. LSU: 3, 8, 8, 1, 2. 5. Tennessee 2,10, 7, 2, 0. 6. UCLA 0, 12, 9, 0, 0. 7. Oklahoma 1, 10, 6, 3, 1. 8. Georgia: 1, 9, 6, 6, 0. 9. Ohio State: 2, 7, 7, 0, 1. 10. Texas A&M 1, 6, 7, 9, 0. |

Top Pre-Season Stories:
Ohio State's Defense is widely considered the best in the nation. Texas' HB Charles is being touted for the Heisman. We are pre-season #1 despite losing so many starters. Preseason Top 5: 1. USC (off A+, Def A-, Special Teams A) 2. VT (B+, B, B+) 3. Michigan (B+, A-, A-) 4. Texas (A+, A-, A) 5. Oklahoma (A+, B+, A-) For the first game, I'm trying an experiment in lowering knockdown slider to 50 for both sides. I'm not sure that is important for lowering INT's anymore.) |

McKnight with a bad start to his career as he fumbles on his 1st carry which was inside their 20. They recover.
Galippo with a pick on their 2nd play to get it right back for us. Stafon ends the short drive with a 3 yard TD run. 7-0. Mays crushes their receiver across the middle forcing a fumble and then picks it up himself! Darn, it is reversed and called an incompletion. They have to punt. Memphis has the worst defense we've played and we are making them pay. After a few solid runs, a PA pass results in a catch of 32 yards which Hazelton breaks into a 40 yard TD play. 14-0. Their offense isn't good and we force a 3 and out. McKnight's 2nd touch is much better as he breaks off a 14 yard TD run! 21-0. Under pressure, their QB throws another pick, this time to Pinkard. Sanchez is showing great mobility against this defense and it is helping him pick the defense apart. TD pass to Coleman. 28-0. End of 1: 28-0. Everson Griffen disrupts the option and forces a fumble! We recover! Sanchez to Vidal for a 19 yard TD! 35-0. Sanchez throws a pick on our next drive (supersim) Their QB throws a pick to our DE on their next drive (also supersim.) We end this drive with a TD to Turner. 42-0. 1:55 to go in the half. I throw a pick towards the end of the half. It's 42-0 at the half. Early in the 3rd, Everson gets his first sack of the day! The announcers are talking about how he is going to develop into a superstar in the future! Sanchez with a PA pass that finds Vidal in stride! TD! 49-0 early in the 3rd. They miss a 41 yard FG to end an otherwise nice drive. I put Stafon in the slot for a play and he makes the nickelback look silly with a move that springs him for a 48 yard TD! 56-0. That was Sanchez's 6th passing TD which ties a school record. Holland with another excellent punt return to set up another short field. With the game in hand, we bring in our 2nd team offense. They respond well and when Gable is tired, McKnight gets it and on his 3rd touch, he runs it 15 yards for a TD!! 63-0. Corp with a 70 yard TD pass to Ausberry in the 4th quarter supersim. 70-0. Our kicker misses a 26 yard FG wide left with 1:23 to go. Game over. 70-0 win. Too bad there were no recruits here this 1st week of the season. Key Stats: Sanchez 21 of 27 for 367 yards with 6 TD's 2 INT's. Corp 3 of 5 for 87 yards 1 TD 1 INT. Stafon 22 carries for 75 yards and a TD. Our offensive line isn't nearly as good at run blocking as it was last year. Gable 9 carries for 58 yards. Sanchez (more mobile than Booty) 7 carries for 42 yards. McKnight 5 carries for 35 yards and 2 TD's. 1 fumble. Vidal Hazelton 8 catches for 164 yards and 3 TD's. Galippo 11 tackles 1 INT. Lawrence Miles: 9 tackles, 5 for a loss, 1 sack. Everson Griffen, 5 tackles, 2 for a loss, 1 sack. Holland 7 punt returns for 128 yards. Memphis: Will Hudgens: 18 of 32 for 208 yards with 3 INT's (1 during supersim) TJ Pitts: 27 carries for 38 yards. Duke Calhoun (their impact receiver) 7 catches for 114 yards. Unlike Booty who was frequently sacked, Sanchez wasn't sacked at all this game. |

We have a much bigger talent advantage than I expected against Purdue this week. This should be another easy win:
On his first throw of the game, Sanchez throws a pick on an out route that they jump. Purdue's 1st pass is a floater as the QB is hit just as he is throwing it. Thomas picks it off, gets good blocking, breaks a tackle, and takes it the distance 82 yards for a TD! 7-0. On 3rd and 9, Wright picks off the QB's 3rd throw of the game and takes the interception 57 yards for a TD. 14-0. This is getting ugly quick as their QB throws a 3rd pick on their next series as he tries to go deep. Taylor Mays picks it off and returns it 22 yards to their 32. They stuff us on 3rd and 1. A 42 yard FG makes it 17-0. This one is a crazy game. Their QB has lost all confidence and is playing horrible. He throws his 4th pick on his 7th pass, this time to Cushing who also takes it the distance (it was an interception in the flat.) 24-0. Purdue with a great drive that mixes in the pass and run well. The QB is 4 for 6 and ends it with a TD pass. 24-8 after a pass for 2. Sanchez throws a pick in the flat! They return it to our 14. Our defense is tired.. End of 1: 24-8, we are up, but they are inside the 10.. Everson Griffen with a sack on 3rd down! Short FG makes it 24-11. We strike quickly with 3 passes and then a TD run from 7 yards out to make it 31-11. We force a 3 and out. During supersim, Sanchez throws his 3rd pick of the day. After stopping them, we put together another TD drive covering 72 yards in 7 plays. 2 yard TD by Stafon makes it 38-11. Stafon with a 9 yard TD run to end our next drive. 45-11! They put together a nice drive, but we get our 5th pick of their QB. The very next play, Sanchez tries to throw deep, but doesn't get enough on it. They pick him off for the 4th time! They settle for a FG 45-14. We try to get into FG range, but we can't do it before time runs out. Halftime: 45-14. Our first drive ends in a TD pass to Jimmy Williams, our TE. 52-14. Sanchez finds Vidal with a PA pass for a 40 yard TD. 59-14. A good drive ends when our SS picks it off. That is 6 against their QB today. On 3rd and 19 on their 19, Sanchez throws his 3rd TD, this time to Stafon who dives to catch it in the back of the endzone. Very early in the 4th, their star HB breaks two tackles and gets a 80 yard run! 66-20. Midway through the 4th, our second team defense gets a safety on their QB. 68-20. We have both 2nd team offense and defense in the game now. Marc Tyler breaks a 43 yard TD run on our next drive. 75-20. Purdue still has their starters in and they put together a good drive for a TD pass to make it 75-27 with 1 minute to go. Game over. 75-27 victory. Key Stats: Sanchez was 18 of 27 for 320 yards with 3 TD's 4 INT's. Stafon ran it 21 times for 92 yards and 3 TD's. Marc Tyler ran it 9 times for 71 yards and a TD. Joe McKnight had 5 carries for 16 yards before he was hurt for the game. Vidal had 5 catches for 91 yards and a TD. Everson Griffen had constant pressure on the QB and forced a few picks. He also had 8 tackles, 6 for a loss, 3 sacks. Shareece Wright was our only player with 2 picks. Cushing, Mays, Will Harris, and Kevin Thomas each had 1. Purdue's Joey Elliott completed 20 of 50 passes for 224 yards with 2 TD's 6 INT's. Kory Sheets had 13 carries for 39 yards. Jaycen Taylor had 8 carries for 108 yards including a 80 yard TD. Josh Bradshaw had 2 picks for Purdue. Sanchez still wasn't sacked, but he made some horrible throws under pressure. |

Our next game is against a very good Cal team that is currently 2-0 and 14th in the nation. Their offense is spectacular. Their defense is solid. We'll have 8 of our best recruits attending the game. I'll play that tomorrow.
In other news: ND upset Michigan 24-21. No other notable games this week. |

After stopping us on our 1st drive at midfield, Longshore and DeSean Jackson go to work..
A strong goalline stand stops them at the 2, but they go for it on 4th down... they run it in for a TD, as their HB avoids a tackle in the backfield with a nifty juke move. 7-0. 11 play 55 yard drive in which Longshore was 4 of 6. They stop us at midfield, as they get 2 sacks on Sanchez.. then they block the punt!!! Longshore ends the drive with a 18 yard TD pass to Jackson in which he skied over my defender. 14-0. David hits a 45 yard FG to make it 14-3 early in the 2nd quarter. We exchange short drives and then on our next drive (after stopping them again) Stafon explodes. He gets all of the yardage either on the ground or through catchs and ends it with a 3 yard TD run. 14-10. On our next drive, Sanchez throws a pick to their linebacker in the flat and he returns it 31 yards for a TD. 21-10. Sanchez throws his 2nd pick on our next drive when he attempts to go deep and their safety gets there in time and makes a great play. DeSean Jackson bobbles the ball as he is hit and McCurtis picks it off! That wasn't Longshore's fault. After a few runs and a few short passes, Sanchez hits Turner on an out that turns into a 14 yard TD! 21-17. Holland hurt his elbow on the last series and is out for a bit, so McKnight returns the punt with 14 seconds left and he shows some dazzling moves to get to the 47. 7 seconds left. We can't get into FG range and the Hail Mary is knocked down. Down 21-17 at the half. We stop them on their first drive. On our first drive, David misses a 44 yard FG wide right. We force a 3 and out. Holland has a brilliant punt return, juking 2 men, until he fumbles when he fails to juke the 3rd man. They recover. Longshore with another nice TD pass to Jackson, this time for 28 yards on a fly pattern. 28-17. They force a 3 and out thanks to another big sack, and we are in trouble... Galippo with an amazing leap to pick off an underneath pass. He returns it 24 yards before Jackson tracks him down. We are at their 18. 2 plays later, McKnight runs it in from the 2 for a TD. 28-24. Their next drive, Longshore is 3 of 4 and they finish it with a 1 yard TD run. 35-24. We have to settle for a 41 yard FG to make it 35-27. Only 4 minutes to go.. They were trying to run out the clock and on his 7th carry of the drive, their HB fumbles and we recover! On 4th and 10, Stafon catches it for a 1st, but he fumbles it! They recover ![]() We force a 3 and out and they pass on 3rd down, saving us our last timeout. Holland has some great blocking on the right... he then cuts back across the field to the left and he has a seam!!! He returns it all the way!!! 35-33! We fail to convert the 2 on an attempted pass ![]() We fail to get the onside kick. On 3rd and 14, they manage to pass for a 1st That is the ball game. They take a knee twice and the game is over. I hope this doesn't turn off the recruits, and hopefully the loss is early enough in the year that we can claw back into the National Championship Picture. Key Stats: Sanchez 18 of 37 for 253 yards with 1 TD 2 INT's. Their defense was very good and had constant pressure on Sanchez. 5 sacks. Stafon 27 carries for 103 yards and a TD. McKnight 2 carries for 5 yards and a TD. Vidal 6 catches for 80 yards. Galippo had 14 tackles, 4 for a loss, 1 interception. Longshore was 24 of 38 for 275 yards with 2 TD's 2 INT's. Jahvid Best had 30 carries for 94 yards and 2 TD's. DeSean Jackson had 8 catches for 127 yards and 2 TD's. Phillip Mbakogu had 2 sacks and a forced fumble. |

That ends a long home winning streak. The loss drops us to #9 in both polls. Cal rises to #8 in the polls.
Most of the recruits are not very happy with their visit ![]() But, most of them still have us #1 on their list. Texas becomes #1 in both polls. Ohio State has a big game against Penn State this week. Both teams are currently undefeated. Ditto for Texas Tech and Oklahoma (currently #2 in the polls.) Time for us to crush Arizona, and hopefully regain some ground in the polls. |

Sanchez with a pick on 3rd and 11 on our 1st drive. Sanchez with some bad throws this year.
Our defense forces a 3 and out. Sanchez is 4 of 4 on our next drive, but Stafon is the star. He ends it with a 4 yard TD run. 7-0. Arizona responds with a nice drive that ends in a 3 yard TD run. 7-7. That was a 13 play 64 yard drive that just ate up half of a quarter. During Supersim, they return a punt for a TD. 14-7. With 3:30 left, we kick a 29 yard FG to make it 14-10. Their kicker horribly shanks a punt and we start on their 26. With 8 seconds left, Sanchez hits Vidal in stride for a 12 yard TD pass. 17-14. Halftime: Up 17-14. We force a 3 and out to start the half. Sanchez hits Holland with a quick flat route, he gets a block to spring him, and uses his speed to burst down the sideline for a 42 yard TD. We'll be using more 4 WR sets the rest of this year after that loss to Cal. NO! The booth determines that he stepped out of bounds on the 11 while being chased! Next play is a 11 yard TD pass to Turner on a simple curl. 24-14. Galippo intercepts a little underneath pass. Stafon is running it well out of the 4 WR set as well.. He runs it from the 4 WR set on a little toss to the left for a 7 yard TD! 31-14. They put together a very nice 13 play 66 yard drive, but we stop them at the 12. FG makes it 31-17. We make it 34-17 early in the 4th with a 30 yard FG. Our next drive, Stafon breaks one up the middle on his first carry. 50 yard TD! 41-17. A late FG gives us a 44-17 win. Nice bounce back from last week. Key Stats: Sanchez: 22 of 33 for 294 yards with 2 TD's 1 INT. Stafon: 29 carries for 158 yards and 3 TD's. McKnight: 7 carries for 25 yards. Turner: 4 catches for 58 yards and a TD. DaJohn Harris (DT): 9 tackles, 3 for a loss. Tuitama: 12 of 29 for 171 yards with 1 INT. Xavier Smith: 14 carries for 47 yards and a TD. Glyndon Bolasky: 11 carries for 35 yards. Kaniela Tuitupola had 7 tackles and 3 sacks from the DT spot. |

That win moved us up to #8 in both polls.
Even without Colt, Hawaii keeps winning. They beat undefeated Boise State 24-13. They are #13 in the polls. Ohio State was upset by Penn State 27-24 in OT. Penn State advances to 3-0 and 18th in the polls. Duke almost upset VT. VT won 28-24 on a late TD by Bell. Auburn advances to 5-0, but aren't getting much respect in the polls. In fact, they aren't in the top 25... does this game have disciplinary action.. I don't think it does. I'm not sure why they aren't ranked unless their schedule is just very bad right now. Ryan Perrilloux is finally the QB of LSU and he is currently garnering a lot of Heisman hype. WOW! I've never had that happen before... I just decided to offer a scholarship to a recruit from Texas and before I could even talk to him, he committed on the spot! Tony Watson is a 4 star athlete who will most likely play corner or WR. He is ranked 210th overall. He is from Lake Jackson, TX. He has excellent speed and is a solid man coverage guy. Another player just did it too! Kevin Lewis is a 6'1 185 pound SS from Highland Park, IL who committed on the spot after I offered. He is a 4 star player who is ranked 154 in the nation. He has very good speed for a safety and is a decent zone coverage player. Next up is a game at Washington State. Their defense is rated poorly, and I expect a big game from Sanchez and the offense. |

The first play of the game, the QB is under pressure and he finally throws a pass towards the HB that Cushing picks off and runs in 28 yards for a TD. 7-0.
On the kickoff, we get their returner in a pile and force a fumble! Thomas recovers for us. 3 plays later, Sanchez to Turner for a 12 yard TD! 14-0. We stop them on 3rd and 1 and force a quick punt. 1st play of the drive, Stafon with a sick stop and jitter move to break a defender's ankle and he has a 61 yard TD run! 21-0. Here is the run (I like this play so much, I recorded 2 different camera angles): They fumble the kickoff, but they recover this time. They go for it on 4th and 2 on our 35, but we stuff the run. A 3 man blitz forces a bad throw from the QB and Cushing picks it off, gets great blocking to run it back 52 yards for a TD. 28-0, still in the 1st quarter. On 3rd and 12, the QB throws up a bad pass on their next drive. Pinkard picks it off. 1st play is a PA pass to Holland for a 16 yard TD. 35-0. A defensive pass interference negates our 4th pick which was in the endzone. They are now on our 2. A goal line stand ends with a pick thrown on 3rd and goal from the 7! Stafon hurts his ankle and will miss the rest of the game. McKnight fumbles on our next drive and we lose possession. We end the half with another FG to make it 41-0. Sanchez with a perfect lob deep for Vidal who gets it over his man. 50 yard TD! 48-0. Late in the 3rd Washington finally gets on the board with a 2 yard TD to end a 8 play 51 yard drive. 48-7. Aaron Corp to Holland for a 11 yard TD (on 3rd down) towards the end of the 4th. 55-7. A garbage time TD against our 2nd team defense makes it 55-13. 55-13 is the final score. Key Stats: Sanchez 20 of 28 for 250 yards with 3 TD's 0 INT's. He was sacked 2 times. Stafon 9 carries for 93 yards. McKnight 21 carries for 52 yards. I'm going back to Gable as the number 2 back. McKnight isn't very good inside at this point. Holland 8 catches for 76 yards and 2 TD's. Maybe he should have been in my 3 WR sets all of this time. His speed makes a huge difference. Cushing 8 tackles, 1 for a loss, 2 interceptions. Gary Rogers: 13 of 30 for 155 yards with 4 INT's. Ian Bell 25 carries for 146 yards and 2 TD's. |

Ole Miss upset Florida 38-13 and drops Florida down from #6 in the polls to 15.
Texas beat Oklahoma 17-16 to remain #1. Oklahoma dropped from #2 in the polls to #5. Clemson is 6-0 after a convincing win over Virginia 45-10. UCLA suffered their first loss of the year to Stanford in a 7-3 game. Colorado gave Oklahoma State their first loss of the year, with a 24-7 game. Texas lost one of their defensive captains due to a severe arm fracture. Roddrick Muckelroy, an OLB, will miss the rest of the regular season and possibly the bowl game. |

I've gone back to 0 for interceptions and 90 for knockdowns. At 100, I think the defenders get to a few too many balls, but any lower and I think the interceptions tend to get out of control. I've also knocked defensive awareness down to 25 for both sides. I would go lower to reduce interceptions, but I think too many big plays happen at any lower setting.
