Stephen King's "Dark Tower" Thumbs Up For Movie

hxxp://www.slashfilm.com/2007/02/26/stephen-king-confirms-the-dark-tower-movie/

Not sure what I think of this. I loved the first few books and then it started tailing off for me and I can't remember which book I'm even on anymore. Something tells me that this won't translate very well into a movie.... but I have been wrong once or twice before.

Finished it a while back, really enjoyed it, can't imagine they can fit this all into one movie and please the book audience. Would rather see this as a tv miniseries ala The Stand.

The first book would make a great movie or two, depending on how much of it gets directly translated onto the screen. I'd just as soon not see the last several books made into movies, unless they can get a director who will rewrite them such that they no longer suck.

But I agree that a miniseries - or a TV show with planned story arcs in the style of Babylon 5 - would probably suit the material better.

I think if they did it like the Harry Potter movies it would be great, there just may not be a demand for it.

There are alot of things from the books that would translate awesome to the big screen. Rsprcialy from the Wastelands

I had really hoped they wouldn't make this into a movie. I just don't see a movie (or movies) living up to what's in my head. And who will they cast as Roland?

Eastwood with some "touching up"?

I always imagined a Viggo Mortensen-type would be good as Roland.

Roland is Eastwood to me. Although Eastwood of at least 20 years ago unfortunately.

I am not sure how well this would work on screen either. I think Books 1 & 2 would make a decent movie. Book 1 is short and not much happens. Book 2, I think, was the best of the bunch. I really enjoyed the "flashback" in Book 4, which was pretty much the entire book.

It would be a very ambitious effort, but I'd definitely watch.

As for the series, I thought Book 6 was quite good (if I have everything straight). It went incredibly fast for me.

As with most of King's work, things fall apart in spectacular fashion in Book 7. While I simply loved the very ending of the series -- the last 2 pages or so (just perfect in my point of view), the rest of Book 7 was not very good.

I was actually talking to my brother about this recently because we saw the news before it was posted here (or the rumors as the case may be)...

A part of me thinks they should put this on the back burner and see how Song of Fire and Ice translates to a season of a TV show on HBO for every book. If it works well, I think that may be more fitting for this.

The other thing I wonder is if they could cleverly tie in the other movies the way that series pulls in the books. .I'm not much for his movies so I wouldn't recognize people, but if they could have cameos for certain guys that appear in the other movies that would be a nice addition...

There's absolutely no way they try to make this all into one movie. It would have to be a series (like Song of Ice and Fire, not like The Stand). It would have to be 6-7 seasons or 6-7 movies.

Oh hell no. It's almost undoubtedly going to be ruined.

Hopefully I'll have the willpower to not watch it like I had with 1408...
