Strangest Play I have seen in MANY seasons of FoF

San Francisco: Single-Back formation, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 with goal-line personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, expecting the run.
1-10-NYK40 (3Q: 03:45) Alex Smith pass was intended for WR Aubrayo Karabetsos and was intercepted by DT Edward Jasper at the NYK07. The interception was returned 29 yards. Tackled by Alex Smith.

The pass was a very deep pass (as can be seen by the fact that the Play started on the NY 40, and the int happened at the NYK 07.

WHY in the world is a DT playing 33 yards downfield?!?!?! Also, they were expecting the run, I can't imagine this if they were on aggressive pass defense, but when they were expecting the run!?!?!?

I find that the deeper I get into this game the more the play engine bothers me. Jim has said that he wanted to create a 2D depiction of the action on the field, and I think that this feature would be very valuable. I can't think of any other feature I would want more than this, that way I can at least see who the opposing DE burns to pressure my QB (only says who got beat on sacks, I think it should say on all QB pressures).

Also, it would help me better plan my defensive play calling being able to see how the LB's and DB's are handled with the various passing zone coverages.

Random theory...

Goal Line personnel = 2xDE, 3xDT, 3xLB, SS, 2xCB. In 2-deep m2m coverage against single-back, then we've got:

WR1 - CB
WR2 - CB
WR3 - ?
Zone1 - S
Zone2 - ?
TE - ?
RB - ?

That's 4 question marks to divide among the 3 LBs and 5 DLs. Playing 2-deep m2m, you've either got a man uncovered, or a defensive lineman in pass coverage. If it's a DT that is scheduled to go out - particularly if that DT matches up with a WR - it would explain some of why pass defense out of goal-line is so horrid.

In the NFL, there are times when a DE can be out there in coverage. Usually only going out about 10 yards or so. Perhaps the receiver, TE, RB kept going and there was no one picking him up so the DT (who was playing in the DE position) had to keep going with him. Then the ball is either deflected or woefully underthrown. And there's your pick. Very unlikely? Incredibly so. But since I have never even seen a DT intercept a ball 30 yards downfield in any FOF game I have ever simulated, you'd have to say the game logic is right on target with the odds of this happening.

Is it possible that the DT was set as a backup ILB on their depth chart? I think that'll happen from time to time, especially if the team is short on players. Or the starting ILB was fatigued, and his backup was a starter at OLB, and by default a DT was chosen as the next backup?
