I Want To Be The Commissioner and Watch My League!

I am trying to figure out what the best way to setup my new league. I simply want the CPU to control all of the teams and watch my league grow. I am a stat freak that just likes to look at each boxscore and check the news, standings and leaders each week. I currently setup a new league in Commissioner mode by using the Multi-Player setup. Is this the best way to go about this? I have no owners in the league so each team should be run by the CPU fairly correct? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Like I said, I just like to watch the league develop some history and watch players age and retire. I really get the feeling that I own the league this way. It is fun to see rookies come in via the draft and watch that big free agent sign with a new team. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks for your time!

Yup, set up a multiplayer league but don't make any teams human controlled. You can then just keep advancing stages. I've got a league like this at home for testing my utilities.

I don't know for certain, but I have not seen the CPU make any trades in the ones I do. (I don't look very closely either) but still it doesn't seem that they trade to me.

Not even during the draft (which I tend to blow by when I do this...but when I "blow by" in single player, when I'm actually playing, I can see the scrolling of the player names slow down and get "choppy" as they make trades and stuff) This doesn't seem to happen with the "multiplayer' cpu v cpu version.

Hope I'm wrong here fo' sho'.

::edit::

The reasons I blow by are because of testing purposes btw...

Can someone confirm for me that there are trades that happen between CPU teams? Thanks!

Yeah - if you think about it, say you run a league with 20 owners and 12 ai teams - you don't want those 12 ai teams making random trades with each other. All trades have to go through the commissioner controls.

Now if I run a league in single-player mode and not multi-player, will the CPU teams then trade with each other? I'm not sure I've seen this happen either. If this is the case then that really stinks. The only thing with the way I play (I do not want control of any team) I have to set everything so the CPU will control all aspects of my selected team. I wish I didn't have to pick a team to control, but I do. The team I select always ends up getting hurt in the free agent market because I do not do anything to help them out. I just sim through each stage.

I guess I'd really like to know if CPU teams trade with each other in single-player mode. Does anyone know?

Thanks for your time!

you would think it wouldn't be that hard to set it up so that you can have a commish-only universe and click a button to allow AI trades amongst the teams. i mean, obviously the code is in there already for AI trading in a solo career

So, you are saying that in a solo career there are CPU/CPU trades? The AI will do this then right? That is all I need to know if that is the case. I will quit my multi-player league and then start a solo/watch league. Please verify when you get a chance. Thanks for your time!

i know the AI definitely makes trades on draft day. whether that includes players or just picks, don't know. but i know it'll make draft day trades. i don't check the transaction screen to really see what's going on around the league.

I see them make trades in the draft, but I personally haven't seen them make regular trades during league play. (This is only in single player mode, not in multiplayer mode with me watching,)

Personally, if they just added the option to turn them on for just the draft in MP mode, I'd be happy, free agency is enough for me as far as player movement.

Actually, I'm pretty happy with it regardless, but I prefer to just play.

Sometimes I feel lazy and like to watch though. Sometimes in times like that though, I'll often just watch a big game from the past in solevision. (even from other teams)

So, after all of this discussion, am I better off starting a solo-single player career and let the CPU AI decide everything for one team or run a game in the mluti-player mode and do not select any teams? I'm still a little confused. From the sounds of it I just miss out on there being any trading in the league if I select the multi-player path. Please provide suggestions for me. Thanks for your time!

Yeah there really isn't any reason to run MP unless you are doing testing of gameplans and other shenanigans...
