Speedway Super League Dynasty

I've been dying to find something differant to do a dynasty with as I feel as though another OOTP, FM, FOF etc. dynasty would be overkill. Having been fooling around with a few of the games on offer from roogames, I've decided to purchase "Flying Shale" which is replay software on a sport known as Speedway.

Each team has a certain amount of riders which is basically their roster. Come raceday, the team must pick 7 riders (2 of which are reserves). During a meeting, 2 riders from each team will square of in a heat (15 heats in all), each heat lasts 5 laps. 1st place gets 3 points, 2nd gets 2 and 3rd gets 1. They of course go to the teams tally. After 15 heats the team with the most points wins (of course, draws happen aswell).

It is by no means an interesting sport as most games end up with the home team winning. But it can provide a bit of thrills. It is very popular in Poland and Sweden, and Britain also has a fairly big league but it is an otherwise unknown sport.

A good website to read if your interested in this is http://www.speedway-faq.org/ which very good at reading into the intricate details of the sport such as tactics etc. which i'll probably gloss over as they are irrelevant to the story. Britain's Sky Sports is also the major sponsor of the British league which you can read about http://www.skysports.com/speedway/

FAIRBURY BRACES FOR INAUGURAL SEASON
Friday 12th October 2007, 5:00pm

OAKWOOD -- The first games of the inaugural Super League season are just hours away, with Oakwood facing the Capital City side Harbourtown.

It has been a long 2 months building up for the start of the season since the Speedway realignment nearly 4 months ago to the day.

"It's going to be a very historical night for Speedway and Fairbury in general" commented league commissioner Ian Silva.

Speedway started out as a small local sport in the big cities such as Harbourtown, Wittam and Amberville in the early 1900s. The sport soon took off all over Fairbury with many teams all over the country, forming local leagues.

It wasn't until the late 1960s that a man by the name of the Brice Nazar tried to formalise all the teams into a country wide competition. Unfortunately mainly due to financial reasons, most teams failed to commit to their away games that were further than a few hundred miles away.

That is how the competition stayed until Ian Silva and a consortium bought the TV rights to Speedway and attempted to re-align the leagues into one big national competition with 48 teams.

"Their were over 70 professional teams all trying to grab one of those 48 spots, so we had to wittle down the list" said Mr Silva. "In the end we decided each major town and City should have just one team, no more, no less".

Due to the poor finances associated with Speedway, the consortium went about re-aligning the teams in terms of proximity. Division A was on the West of the Country, with Division B on the East. Then the teams were split up into North and South for each Division to form 12 teams into each.

League Schedule was increased from playing just one home and away against the opposition to playing two games at home and away, to create a 44 game schedule.

The top 4 teams from each league then go into national Play-Offs to declare the winner of the Super League and the Nazar Trophy.

Games tonight:
Harrisville V Woodcity
Wittam V Overton
Kirkham V Evensea
Abberly V Rufford
Amberville V Walden
St. George V Cape Coral
Lucky Island V Swanville
Madison V Gainsborough
Oak Beach V Longchurch
Oakwood V Harbourtown
Hyde City V Urmston
Fivesprings V Finchville

MADISON WINS A THRILLER
Friday 12th October 2007, 10:30pm

MADISON -- Dawid Cieslewicz claimed 2 vital points for Madison in the final heat to give his side a 47-46 win over the Gainsborough Cowboys at Park Street Stadium.

The Thunder were trailing 28-20 after the 8th heat before Lukasz Linette as the Tactical Sub came on and win heat 9 to reduce the deficit to 1 point.

In other games, Oakwood smashed Harbourtown 57-33 despite Andreas Jonsson failing two points shy in a perfect ride in a 12 point haul for the Swarm.

Harrisville smashed Woodcity 53-37, Kirkham were too strong for Evensea and Wittam never looked in doubt against Overton picking up a 51-39 win.

Abberly got soundly beaten at home by Rufford after losing their star rider Makr Lorum for the entire meeting in the first heat. His replacement Josh Larsen only faired one heat more before crashing out in Heat 6 to end any chance Abberly had of winning the game.

"That's just Speedway really. You need your riders, and you need them in form or you won't win and that showed today. We will take some positives from the Meeting and look to the next match in a couple of days" commented the Abberly Manager.

HORNETS SMASH ALDENKIRK
Saturday 13th October 2007, 3:32pm

FIVESPRINGS -- Fivesprings got their season off to a magnificent start in Division B South with a 62-27 thrashing over Aldenkirk in an incident filled meeting.

Scott Nicholls crashed out and received a tape infringment on his way to 7 points as his Teammates Anderson and Kearl finished with 13+1 points for the Hornets.

"It was a big win, but the way we went about it was a bit poor. We had a lot of crashes, but luckily so did [Aldenkirk]" said Nicholls.

Meanwhile in other Division B Sout games, Urmston smashed Alconmere 62-28 and Water Valley beat Hyde City 58-32

SAGE AND ALLOTT RESCUE MERCURY
Sunday 14th October 2007, 5:43pm

SHORNSTONE -- A 1-2 finished for Alan Sage and Micky Allott gave Shornstone a 46-44 win over the Kirkham Warlocks after trailing 36-30 after 11 heats.

Kirkham lead 43-41 going into the Top Scorers heat before Sage and Allott finished 1-2 respectively to pip the Warlocks and give Shornstone the Win.

"We are bitterly dissapointed to not come away with anything, especially after leading for so long" commented Kirkham star rider Jody Vecchi. "We thought a 6 point lead was good going into the final 4 heats, but it just shows anything can happen".

Teammate Paul Thorp echoed Vecchi's feelings but added "At least when we face them next time at home we only have a 2 point deficit to overcome in order to claim a bonus point".

Elsewhere in the Super League, Auldsea overcame Evensea 46-44, whilst a near perfect race (2-3-3-3-3) from Matej Zagar gave Water Valley a 57-34 win over Fivesprings in Division B South.

VALLEYBRIDGE FUMING OVER SCHEDULE
Friday 19th October 2007, 8:27am

VALLEYBRIDGE -- The board of Directors at the Valleybridge Stampede are blaming the Super League for poor scheduling after their team slumped to the foot of the table in the Division A North.

Valleybridge have lost all 5 of their opening games, with all 5 being away from home. Team Manager John Muscat has said things need to change next season.

"It's totally unfair to us and the other teams that are in the same position. We don't exactly have the best squad floating around the Super League as it is, but to play 5 games away from home to begin the season is just silly".

The comments come after another drubbing, this time at the hands of Lifford who played their first home game of the season, coming out 60-32 victors.
